The SECOND of eight Welcome Home Fund recipients have officially become homeowners!
The Demery Family was selected in the Welcome Home Fund process in 2025 among 450 other applicants. After renting with JWB for more than thirteen years, they also took full advantage of the JWB HomeStep program, earning $3,600 in additional assistance.

JWB is Jacksonville’s leading provider of affordable housing! Through programs that bridge the gap between renting and owning, we are actively championing Affordable Housing Month by providing residents with the financial tools and educational resources necessary to build long-term stability.
JWB’s HomeStep Program
Residents can earn $3,600 toward closing costs to purchase a home. This funding is one of the major hurdles to becoming a homeowner In just a year and a half, the HomeStep program has helped 24 residents become homeowners!
JWB Cares, Welcome Home Fund
Helping eight families become homeowners through a charitable contribution of $20,000 each in down payment assistance.
JWB offers all residents of Jacksonville the opportunity to participate in its free homebuyer education classes The next class will be held August 22, 2026, and is free and open to anyone who wants to become a homeowner and prepare for the journey from renter to homebuyer.
JWB’s rents average a combined 25% less than the average rental rates in Jacksonville (according to Rent Café). Also, JWB’s new construction homes are priced well below the median single-family home price in Jacksonville

Marcellus is extremely smart- smarter than any human he encounters. Have you had encounters with animals- octopus or otherwise- who demonstrated surprising levels of intelligence. Have you felt “seen” by an animal or felt a relationship with an animal deepen upon earning their trust?
We learn that Marcellus was rescued from the sea with a life threatening injury. Aquariums play an important role in education and conservation but some people view keeping animals, especially intelligent ones, in captivity with skepticism. What do you think?
