Ted doesn’t get invited to parties or go to other people’s houses like his siblings do. When he goes to the hospice, it’s like his own special place, which is huge for a 12-year-old boy – to actually have somewhere to belong. Our nurses and carers know Ted’s got a character and how to entertain him. He gives the biggest smiles!

With no other regular support network around them, Mum, Lucy, says Julia’s House nurses and carers are like a trusted friend at the end of the phone. Our care is life-changing for them.
When Isla-Rae and her twin sister were born very early both girls needed to be resuscitated. It looked like little Isla wasn’t going to make it - she had severe brain damage.

Before their first birthday, Isla’s lungs collapsed and now she needs oxygen at home. She also has dystonia which makes her muscles go really tense.
Isabella is a sassy, loud and sociable little girl who likes to go shopping and get her nails done. She was born with chronic lung disease and is attached to oxygen day and night to help her breathe. Her ventilator alarm will sound loudly if ever anything goes wrong. It’s scary for Mum when that happens.
Life is extremely difficult for parents Lucy and Nik having two children with cerebral palsy. They can easily end up feeling quite down and exhausted. ‘I get anxious about leaving Isla and trusting people… but with Julia’s House, I know she’s in safe hands and I can relax.” Mum, Lucy
When Aurelia and Aurora’s parents, Tom and Lucy, first found out they were expecting twins, they were elated, but they were born with the same rare heart condition as their mother. Neither of them were breathing when they were born and were not expected to reach 30 days old. Even now doctors say the girls are living on borrowed time. They are very fragile and tire easily but they are still here fighting! They’re complete characters and love to do everything together. It has been a tough, exhausting and emotional journey so far for the family.

With only 8% Government funding, we rely almost entirely on the generosity of the local community to raise the £1.5m needed each year to make our vital service possible in Wiltshire. BELONG TOGETHER Ted was born with an incredibly rare and terminal condition called Aromatic Amino Acid Decarboxylase Deficiency, which is like a childhood Parkinson’s disease. He’s one of five children in the UK to have it and he needs an incredible amount of care.
But Johnathon needs a lot of complex care, which can only be given by someone who is trained to care for him. When I visit Johnathon at his home it’s the only rest his family gets. He loves our activities of messy play and baking. He’s cheeky and fun, playing pranks on us when he thinks we’re not looking!
You see, Julia’s House children’s hospice has the only hospice building in Wiltshire, although our vital service spreads much further than this, offering a helping hand to these families, wherever and whenever they need it the most. We’re there for the whole family not just for holidays, but every day and in an emergency - at the hospice, out in the community or in their home. They will depend on our special care when the unthinkable happens at the end of their child’s life and through the unbearable years that follow.

Johnathon has CHARGE syndrome. He was born with his tummy connected to his lungs and doctors said he was unlikely to ever make it home. After a lot of time in hospital and years of heart surgery it’s wonderful that, 12 years on, Johnathon is still here today - with his family.
