Materials and Skills Incubator

Typology: Workshop

Location: Chicago, IL

Studio Partner: Mariame Kahack Year Long Studio Project, Fourth Year Software: Rhino, Adobe Suite, Enscape

The goal of the project is to create an impact that extends far beyond the site itself. It will serve as an incubator space where community members can collaborate, sharing skills and materials sourced from nearby autobody shops and manufacturing centers to create a diverse body of work, ranging from mixed-media sculptures and textile art to home improvement projects. These will then be showcased on the site and flow out into the neighborhood.

Northerly Island Campus

Typology: Mixed Use Development

Location: Chicago, IL

Studio Partner: Hali Parker and Ava Brown

Studio Project, Fifth Year

Software: Rhino, Adobe Suite

This project reimagines Northerly Island as a public campus centered on wellness, recreation, and gathering along Lake Michigan. The program includes a pool, a spa with cold plunge and sauna, an event center, and a café, organized to frame views, respond to climate, and extend activity into the landscape.

The cafe building is designed to sit on the rocky edge between Northerly Island and Lake Michigan. The building frames both a view towards the lake and a interior rain garden designed to highlight the visual and auditory qualities of the edge cndition it sits on.

The event center is designed to sit on top of a hill taking advantage of the existing topography to frame view both towards the Chicago skyline and away from the city towards Lake Michigan.

Lake Meadows Library

Typology: Library

Location: Chicago, IL

Studio Project, Third Year

Software: Rhino, Adobe Suite

Embracing the timeless charm of bay windows and the enduring appeal of brick, this adaptive reuse design thoughtfully re-imagines the tradition-al library and market, transforming it into a vibrant community hub that honors its architectural heritage. The carefully articulated facade not only enhances visual interest but also creates intimate spaces that invite learning and relaxation. On the ground floor, a lively market buzzes with activity, complemented by a welcoming coffee shop that serves as a social focal point.

Solar Decathlon Competition

Typology: School

Location: Chicago, IL

Partners: Jadedon, Nicholas, Miguel, Mahek, Tariq, Bogdan, Jimmy

Solar Decathlon Competition Project, 5th Year

Software: Revit, Sketchup, Rhino, Sefaira, Open Studio, Enscape, Adobe Suite

Located in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, the former Overton Elementary School (1963, Perkins & Will) is reimagined as a 6–8th grade Montessori middle school. The project explores a net-zero, performance-driven adaptive reuse strategy that integrates building systems and environmental design within a historically significant, community-anchored facility to create a flexible, future-ready learning environment.

Additional insulation layers added on top of the existing roof significantly improves overall building performance, and lowers the EUI value.

Replacing the existing single pane glazing with anew high efficiency triple pane glazing assembly and additional insulation layer at the window sill helps prevent thermal bridging and significantly improves building performance.
