Hello Thunder Family!

This past Sunday’s matchup against the Rhine Fire, although a loss in the end, was a great opportunity to see the fans out at the Frederich-JahnSportpark!

Sunday’s 16.25 CET matchup against the Rhein Fire saw the visitors hand the Thunder their second loss in 2 games with a 27-24 victory. The Thunder move to a 2-3 record on the season with 7 games left to play in the 2024 regular season. The Thunder have lost 3 out of their last 5 matchups and look to avenge the loss to the Rhine Fire this Saturday at 13.00 CET when they face the Prague Lions in Ústí nad Labem.

As for in-game statistics, the Thunder finished the day with 245 total yards on offense. Thunder quarterback Jakeb Sullivan finished the day with 142 yards on 27 attempts, with one touchdown and one interception for a 79.55 QB rating. During the game, the Thunder went 3-10 on third down attempts with a 30% conversion rate. Thunder running back Albert Wiesigstrauc was Sunday’s rushing leader for the Thunder, finishing with 62 yards and a touchdown. Thunder wide reciever Robin Wilzeck led the day in receiving yards with 61, notably scoring a 41-yard touchdown in the 2nd quarter to put the Thunder up 14-7. Wide reciever Aaron Jackson and running back Robin Wiesigstrauc would also finish with one touchdown each on the day. Overall, Rhein Fire Running Back Glen Toonga led all offensive players with 175 rushing yards on 27 attempts with 3 touchdowns.

Star Thunder safety Alex Spillum led the defence in tackles on Sunday with 9. Ludvig Myrén and Nic Klopsch tied for 2nd in total tackles on the day, with 8 tackles a piece between them. Along with 8 tackles on the day, Myrén would also have an interception that saw a 53-yard return. Thunder Defensive End Kyle Kitchens had two sacks on the day.

At the end of the 1st half, the Berlin Thunder led the Rhine Fire 21-7 with signs looking promising for a 3rd win on the season. However, the Rhein Fire scored 20 unanswered points with 3 rushing touchdowns and a successful 2-point conversion to win them the game 27-24.

The Thunder will play away from Berlin the next two weeks, as they travel to the Czech Republic and Hungary to face the Prague Lions and Fehérvár Enthroners. The Thunder’s next game will be against the Lions on 30th June at 16.25 CET at the Městský stadion in Ústí nad Labem, Czechia. After facing the Enthroners in Székesfehérvár, the Thunder return to Berlin to face the Vienna Vikings on 21st July at 13.00 CET at the Frederich-JahnSportpark in Berlin.
