This piece draws from microscopic photography and videography, taking inspiration from structures such as insect limbs, cellular reactions, and the patterned symmetry of diatom shells. It meditates on the beauty and complexity that exist beyond the limits of human perception, celebrating the intricate richness of life at its smallest scales.

Spanish Harlem is the muse for "Vivir." My birthplace is where I was exposed to all kindsof music and sounds. The beauty and power of Latin music was everywhere. This work was created to celebrate the culture, the people, and the sound that helped me thrive. Music saves and heals us.

This work explores how two people romantically collide, playing with the idea that love is a game of chance and fate can either bring us together or tear us apart. This abstract narrative touches on the social aspects of romantic choice, fantasy, longing, projection, rejection, and an anxious/avoidant attachment dynamic.

I've discovered that jazz, with its vibrant spirit and limitless creativity, opens up incredible possibilities for collaborating with dancers. It invites them to become their own instruments, blending their unique movements with the rhythm of the music. This partnership sparks a journey that encourages them to dive deep into studying and truly listening. For me, jazz is a thrilling adventure, a rich tapestry of complexities that demands an engaging approach. It merges conceptual and ancestral rhythms with exhilarating physical expressions and emotional exploration.
Sojourner premiered on BalletX on February 12, 2025 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre, Philadelphia, PA.
BALLETX, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet, unites artistic innovation with technical excellence to forge new works of athleticism, emotion, and grace. Founded in 2005 and led by Artistic & Executive Director Christine Cox, the company has commissioned over 80 choreographers from around the world to produce 150 world premieres that are “fresh, inclusive, and connect to what people want” (Philadelphia Citizen). With a versatile and diverse ensemble of 16 dancers, hailed as “among America’s best” by The New York Times, BalletX pushes the boundaries of classical ballet to tell today’s stories with passion, creativity, and exuberance. As a vibrant global incubator for artistic talent, the company makes ballet accessible and inviting, captivating audiences at prestigious venues including The Kennedy Center, Vail Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Through performances, international touring, and meaningful community outreach, BalletX creates extraordinary dance experiences that inspire human connection.
BalletX at The Joyce Theater is made possible through the generous support of lead sponsors Susan & Jeff Campbell. The Joyce Theater Foundation ("The Joyce," Executive Director, Linda Shelton), a nonprofit organization, has proudly served the dance community for more than four decades. Under the direction of founders Cora Cahan and Eliot Feld, Ballet Tech Foundation acquired and The Joyce renovated the Elgin Theater in Chelsea. Opening as The Joyce Theater in 1982, it was named in honor of Joyce Mertz, beloved daughter of LuEsther T. Mertz. It was LuEsther’s clear, undaunted vision and abundant generosity that made it imaginable and ultimately possible to build the theater. Ownership was secured by The Joyce in 2015. The theater is one of the only theaters built by dancers for dance and has provided an intimate and elegant home for over 500 U.S.-based and international companies. The Joyce has also expanded its reach beyond its Chelsea home through off-site presentations at venues ranging in scope from Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater, to Brooklyn’s Invisible Dog Art Center, and to outdoor programming in spaces such as Hudson River Park. To further support the creation of new work, The Joyce maintains longstanding commissioning and residency programs. Local students and teachers (1st–12th grade) benefit from its school program, and family and adult audiences get closer to dance with access to artists. The Joyce’s annual season of about 48 weeks of dance now includes over 300 performances for audiences of over 100,000. Visit Joyce.org for more information.

The Joyce Theater is a member of APAP, Dance/NYC, and Dance/USA.
The Joyce Theater operates on the Lenape island of Manhahtaan (Mannahatta) and acknowledges that it was founded upon the stolen land and erasure of many Indigenous communities. This acknowledgement demonstrates our institution’s commitment to the process of dismantling the legacies of colonialism and cultural imperialism.
We acknowledge the ongoing violence towards Indigenous people through systemic inequality. We pay our respect to the Indigenous peoples who lived and continue to live upon this land, and whose rich history, artistic practices, and spirituality are tied to this land. It is within our responsibility as a cultural institution and our commitment to diversity and inclusion to embody a commitment to Indigenous rights and cultural equity.
We sincerely invite you as an audience member to take a moment to reflect on the history and legacy of displacement, migration, and settlement.
It is our intention to work with local Native American arts councils to better inform our land acknowledgment practices and anticipate that it will evolve over time.
