When you travel with us you are contributing to the protection of wildlife and the environment in partnership with local communities. As well as carefully selecting our partners around the world we also give 5% of our net profit each year to supporting charities and conservation efforts in the places we work.
FINANCIAL SECURITY You have complete financial security when you book with Journeysmiths. We are fully bonded and licenced under the Civil Aviation Authority’s ATOL scheme, licence number ATOL 2883 (Journeysmiths is a trading name of Africa Exclusive Ltd). This covers all clients who book their international flights from the UK and holiday arrangements through us. If you are arranging your own flights or you are not departing from the UK you are also protected by a separate insurance policy that we voluntarily maintain with Travel and General Insurance Services. This is called a Total Payment Protection Policy (TOPP) and the policy number is AELI/topp/20/14.

It may seem counterintuitive that visiting a place could protect it, but staying at the right place can do just that. In 1652, Jan van Riebeeck sailed into Table Bay on the north Cape Peninsula and laid the foundations of South Africa’s oldest settlement, Cape Town. Three hundred and fifty years of history have been preserved in much of Cape Town’s architecture, which combines attractively with the more functional demands of the 21st century. The Houses of Parliament, National Gallery, Museum and Planetarium are all within ambling distance of
elegant shopping malls and colourful markets, which entice shoppers to browse and buy everything from souvenirs to African art, gems and antiques. In the last ten years, the restoration of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront dockland area evokes images of 19th century seafaring activities and provides a superb setting for an array of cafes, restaurants and bars. From here, you can take boat trips round the harbour and out across Table Bay. JOURNEYSMITHS

Dominating the city’s skyline and flanked by Devils Peak is the looming mass of Table Mountain, and visitors should not miss the opportunity to ascend Table Mountain by cable car. The view of the city and the South Atlantic from the summit is quite magnificent. There is a wide range of excursions and activities in and around Cape Town including visits to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was held prisoner and visits to Townships where you

can enjoy lunch and exposure to Africa’s vibrant urban culture. To the south lies the scenic Peninsula with its attractive sandy bays and pretty little towns. There are remote penguin colonies which can be visited by boat and canoe, and from July to November you can set off further afield in search of southern right whales. The more adventurous can even go looking for sharks in special “caged diving” facilities.

The Victoria & Alfred was Cape Town’s first hotel in the new Waterfront development, and is located in the 1904 North Quay warehouse, with superb views of Table Mountain, Table Bay and the working harbour. The ninety-four spacious bedrooms are stylishly furnished and air-conditioned, each with king-size or twin beds, en-suite bathroom with full size bath and separate shower, flat screen television, complimentary Wi-FI and fully stocked bar fridge.

The Waterfront offers many interesting shops and boutiques, a theatre, restaurants and cafes, bistros and bars, a local brewery, as well as historic buildings, a maritime museum and other places of interest. The city centre is only minutes away and there is a regular bus service, which takes you from the front of the hotel to the heart of the city.

Of all the reserves adjoining the Kruger, Sabi Sands has perhaps the greatest richness of wildlife with large herds of elephant, a wide variety of antelope
and good size herds of buffalo which in turn attract impressive lion prides, the elusive leopard and streamlined cheetah. JOURNEYSMITHS

The astonishing diversity of shapes and sizes of African wildlife can all be enjoyed here as you watch immensely tall giraffe sharing a waterhole with a family of busy-looking warthog, while a little way through the bush might be several rhinoceros which appear to be designed more for pre-historic times.

Set under a leafy canopy of ebony and leadwood trees on the banks of the Mabrak River, Dulini Moya Lodge has six luxurious and authentically designed luxury suites. During a stay at Dulini you will be taken on open vehicle game drives with professional rangers and trackers. The guides will also take you on exciting walks when they will be armed. These can be fascinating experiences as you track animals through the bush, reach out and touch things, look at tracks and feel at one with your surroundings. You might spend half an hour standing next to seven-foot-high termite mound as he explains its intricate workings, all operated by literally millions of these tiny creatures which operate ten to fifteen feet below ground.

COMMUNITY Dulini’s parent company runs the esiDulini Community Trust, a registered non-profit organisation reaching out to the communities surrounding the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve.
COMMUNITY The communities that the trust supports rank amongst some of the most impoverished in South Africa. Dulini believes they have a responsibility to extend a hand to their neighbours who live rural lifestyles far from the reach of government spending and service provision.

Mpala Jena is the perfect base from which to explore the Zambezi National Park whilst being within easy reach of the majestic Victoria Falls. Situated on the Zimbabwean side of the Falls

There are high numbers of buffalo and elephants typically from June to October and there are more lions per square kilometre here than in any other park in Zimbabwe. Birding is a highlight and catch and release fishing is a popular activity.

During your stay you can enjoy exciting game drives and guided bush walks in the national park, or you can head out for an entirely different perspective on an afternoon boat safari. One day you might like to visit the impressive Victoria Falls themselves and maybe head to the Lookout Café for lunch, with breath taking views of the Batoka Gorge and the rapids below.
