OXFOLD WHERE QUIET LUXURY MEETS CULTURAL STRENGTH

Founded on intention, discipline, and deeply rooted cultural values, OxFold is more than a luxury fashion label—it is a reflection of lived experience, faith, and refined craftsmanship. At the helm is Josephine Samura , whose journey from Sierra Leone to the United States has shaped a brand defined by quiet power, elegance, and purpose. Every OxFold design speaks to a woman who understands that confidence does not need to be loud to be commanding.

Drawing from heritage, global exposure, and a life shaped by service, education, and creativity, Josephine has built OxFold with patience and vision. From its braided symbolism to its meticulous tailoring, the brand balances modern sophistication with cultural depth. In this exclusive interview with QP FASHION MAGAZINE , Josephine opens up about legacy, faith, craftsmanship, and her mission to empower women through timeless design.

Josephine, what inspired you to create OxFold, and how did your upbringing in Sierra Leone influence the brand?

OxFold was born from a deeply personal desire to create with purpose, blending faith, creativity, and the discipline shaped by my life experiences. From a young age, fashion and design captivated me as a way to express identity, strength, and beauty. Creating OxFold became a natural extension of that instinct, a space where intention, craftsmanship, and empowerment coexist.

Growing up in Sierra Leone profoundly shaped the brand’s soul. Surrounded by natural beauty, strong community values, and a culture rooted in resilience and storytelling, I learned to see strength in elegance and meaning in detail. That upbringing instilled a deep respect for craftsmanship, resourcefulness, and the idea that beauty can be both powerful and purposeful. OxFold reflects these lessons through designs that are refined yet strong, modern yet grounded, and always created to make women feel seen, confident, and empowered.

My journey into the fashion industry has been anything but conventional. After moving to the United States , I worked at Victoria’s Secret before transitioning into pediatric nursing, because I love helping people, especially children. I earned a master’s degree in Global Technology & Applied International Development from Arizona State University and later worked as a consultant in global technology and development. Extensive travel and exposure to diverse cultures further shaped my perspective on life and design.

global experience. I believe that education and skill-building are powerful tools for success, and that true empowerment comes from combining both with intention and purpose.

Can you share the story behind the name “OxFold” and why braids hold such significance in your designs?

OxFold takes its name from the Krio word for braids, the local language of Sierra Leone . Braids define the foundation of the brand—they symbolize strength, resilience, and beauty.

These values are woven into every design, reflecting longevity, precision, uniqueness, and a quiet confidence for the woman who wears them. Building a new fashion brand has been a true leap of faith, marked by challenges that tested my vision and resolve.

“Growing up in Sierra Leone taught me to see strength in elegance and meaning in detail, those values live in every OxFold design.”

Rising through those moments is a reminder that women can be soft and feminine, yet powerful at the same time.

How do faith and your late father’s life lessons continue to shape your approach to business and design?

My late father made countless sacrifices to support our family, myself, three siblings, and many cousins. He taught us to welcome everyone while still carving out our own place in the world, a lesson that shaped my mindset and explains why I rarely let opportunities pass me by. He deeply loved people and always went out of his way to help friends and neighbors, often paying school fees and offering support wherever he could.

Throughout every chapter, creativity remained constant. It has expressed itself not only through fashion but also through designing home décor pieces, including vases and wall art, as well as styling interiors in my free time. Founding OxFold allowed me to honor that creative instinct while applying the discipline and perspective shaped by life, family, and

He often told me to be an asset, not a liability, in someone’s life and to work hard toward my dreams. I put God first in everything I do, and the last time I saw my dad alive, he reminded me to be kind, humble, disciplined, and committed to my goals. His words continue to guide me, shaping my patience and my ability to focus on the bigger picture as I build with intention and purpose.

When you first envisioned OxFold, did you anticipate it becoming the luxury and culturally-rooted brand it is today?

When I first envisioned OxFold , I did not anticipate exactly what it would become. I knew

“We prioritize quality over quantity, ensuring every piece delivers lasting value and timeless sophistication.”

I was committing myself to a long journey, one that would demand patience, discipline, and consistent hard work. By building the brand slowly and with intention, its sense of quiet luxury and cultural depth revealed themselves over time. OxFold grew through persistence and purpose, becoming a reflection of refined craftsmanship, understated elegance, and the belief, that meaningful work is shaped patiently, not rushed.

How do you balance cultural heritage with modern fashion trends in your collections?

I approach cultural heritage as a foundation, not a trend. It informs the values behind each design including strength, resilience, and intention, while modern fashion influences how those ideas are expressed through silhouette, tailoring, and finish. By focusing on clean lines, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury, the pieces feel contemporary without losing their cultural meaning. This balance allows OxFold to honor heritage in a way that feels timeless, wearable, and relevant to today’s woman.

OxFold emphasizes “boldness, creativity, and beauty.” How do you translate these values into your garments?

At OxFold , boldness, creativity, and beauty are not just words, but guiding principles in every piece we create. Boldness shows in the confident silhouettes and striking details that make a statement without saying a word. Creativity comes through in craftsmanship, textures, and unique design touches that elevate everyday wear into art. And beauty is woven into every garment, from precise tailoring to the way each piece empowers the woman wearing it. Together, these values shape clothes that are timeless, intentional, and quietly powerful.

Can you walk us through your creative process from concept to finished piece?

It all starts with an idea that becomes a sketch, which is subsequently turned into a detailed spec pack that our tailors can work from through the use of technology. Each collection begins with thorough research into fabrics, ensuring every material complements the design perfectly. Every garment undergoes an

extensive prototyping process, with multiple samples created to meet our quality standards. Collaboration is central to OxFold ’s process, so our team provides continuous feedback to refine fit, elevate craftsmanship, and ensure the final product exceeds expectations.

How do you ensure that every piece embodies both sophistication and individuality for your clients?

Every piece is designed to balance elegance with personal expression. Through careful craftsmanship, precise tailoring, and attention to detail, each garment exudes sophistication, while unique design elements—whether in texture, silhouette, or finishing—allow the wearer’s individuality to shine. This combination ensures that every piece is both timelessly refined and distinctly personal.

What makes OxFold’s craftsmanship stand out in the luxury fashion market?

What sets OxFold ’s craftsmanship apart in the luxury fashion market is our unwavering commitment to quality over quantity. Every piece is carefully conceived, from fabric selection to multiple rounds of prototyping and refinement, ensuring it meets the highest standards of fit, finish, and durability. We complement our meticulous design with high-end packaging, creating a superior unboxing experience that reflects the care and sophistication of each garment. By prioritizing detail, intentionality, and presentation, OxFold delivers timeless pieces that embody quiet luxury and lasting value.

How do you select fabrics and materials to maintain your commitment to quality?

Fabric selection is a deliberate and thoughtful process. We begin with extensive research to find materials that not only complement each design but also meet our high standards for durability, texture, and drape. Each fabric is assessed and considered for how it will perform, wear, and age over time, ensuring every garment maintains its elegance and integrity. By choosing materials with care, we uphold our commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and the lasting value our clients expect.

“The OxFold woman is confident, intentional, and unafraid to embrace both strength and femininity.”

Can you share an example of a design that required exceptional attention to detail and why?

The Noir Spark Sequin Dress is a perfect example of OxFold’s dedication to meticulous design and luxurious detail. Every sequin is carefully placed to create a dynamic, shimmering effect that catches light from every angle, while the silhouette is precisely tailored to flatter and empower the wearer. This dress underwent an extensive prototyping process to ensure that each panel aligned perfectly while maintaining both comfort and elegance. The result is a piece that balances bold statement-making with understated sophistication, allowing the wearer’s individuality to shine while embodying quiet luxury.

OxFold prides itself on longevity in style—how do you design pieces that remain timeless yet contemporary?

I always strive to design our garments with both longevity and modernity in mind. Each piece begins with a classic foundation featuring clean lines, precise tailoring, and thoughtful proportions creating that timeless look. From there, we introduce contemporary touches through unique details, textures, or subtle design innovations that make the garment feel fresh and relevant. By balancing these elements, we create pieces that not only withstand changing trends but also offer quiet luxury and enduring style for the modern woman.

How does OxFold aim to empower those who wear your designs?

OxFold aims to empower our clientele through garments that embody confidence, strength, and individuality. Every design is created with precise tailoring, thoughtful details, and elevated silhouettes to make the wearer feel poised and self-assured. We believe that true empowerment comes from feeling comfortable in your own expression, and our pieces are designed to enhance that confidence, allowing women to move through the world with quiet strength, elegance, and presence.

Who is the OxFold woman, and how do you envision her style and confidence evolving through your collections?

The OxFold woman is confident, intentional, and unafraid to embrace both strength and femininity. She values quality, craftsmanship, and pieces that reflect her individuality while remaining timeless. Through our collections, we support her evolution by offering designs that enhance her confidence, encourage selfexpression, and adapt to her lifestyle. As she moves through each season with OxFold , her style grows bolder yet refined, embodying quiet luxury and a poise that is uniquely her own.

How do you gather feedback from your clients, and how does it influence your designs?

Client feedback is an integral part of our design process. We engage with our community through direct conversations, social media interactions, and thoughtful surveys to understand their needs, preferences, and experiences with our garments. This insight helps us refine fit, adjust details, and explore new styles while staying true to our brand values. By listening closely to our clients, we ensure each collection resonates with the women who wear it, creating pieces that are both functional and aspirational.

What challenges have you faced as a founder of a luxury fashion brand, and how have you overcome them?

Launching a luxury fashion brand comes with many challenges, from ensuring the highest standards of quality to navigating a competitive and fast-moving industry. One of the greatest hurdles has been turning creative ideas into pieces that are both meticulously crafted and commercially viable. Overcoming these challenges has required patience, discipline, and relentless attention to detail, as well as building a collaborative team that shares the brand’s vision. By staying committed to craftsmanship, listening to feedback, and approaching every obstacle as an opportunity to grow, OxFold has been able to transform these challenges into lasting strengths.

OxFold emphasizes long-term strategy—what advice would you give emerging designers about building a lasting brand?

For emerging designers, my advice is to focus on vision, patience, and intentionality. Building a lasting brand is not about quick wins or following every trend. It is about creating

“Boldness doesn’t have to shout; it can exist in confident silhouettes, refined details, and impeccable craftsmanship.”

timeless designs, maintaining uncompromising quality, and staying true to your values. Invest in understanding your audience, cultivate strong relationships with your team and collaborators, and view challenges as opportunities to refine your craft. By prioritizing long-term strategy over immediate gratification, you can build a brand that endures and evolves with both style and purpose.

How has your brand evolved since its launch, and where do you see OxFold in the next five years?

Since its launch, I have seen OxFold grow from a personal vision into a luxury brand known for quiet sophistication, meticulous craftsmanship, and cultural richness. Each collection has allowed me to refine our design process, strengthen our commitment to quality, and deepen my connection with the women who wear our pieces. Over the next five years, I envision OxFold expanding into major upscale retailers while continuing to elevate brand recognition and influence in the luxury fashion space.

Sustainability and ethical practices are increasingly important in fashion— how does OxFold address these priorities?

Sustainability and ethical practices are at the heart of everything we do. We carefully source materials to ensure durability and minimize environmental impact, and our focus on quality over quantity helps reduce waste and promote long-lasting style. Every garment is crafted with attention to detail, designed to endure season after season. We work exclusively with BSCI -certified vendors, ensuring fair, transparent, and ethical practices throughout our supply chain. By prioritizing sustainability at every step, OxFold delivers pieces that are not only luxurious but also responsible and mindful of the world we live in.

Finally, what legacy do you hope OxFold leaves in the fashion world, both creatively and culturally?

I hope that OxFold leaves a legacy of timeless creativity and cultural resonance. Creatively, I want my work to be remembered for its meticulous craftsmanship, thoughtful details, and quiet luxury that empowers the wearer. Culturally, I hope OxFold stands as a brand that honors heritage, celebrates resilience, and inspires women to embrace strength, individuality, and elegance. I want my pieces to endure not just as fashion, but as meaningful expressions of artistry, intention, and identity. My ultimate goal is to use OxFold as a platform to give back and create meaningful change in the lives of those who are less fortunate. I want the brand to do more than just create beautiful clothing, but also serve as a vehicle for supporting communities, funding educational opportunities, and empowering individuals to reach their full potential. By integrating charitable initiatives into everything we do, I hope OxFold can make a lasting, positive impact on the world while inspiring others to use their creativity and resources for good.

“I want OxFold to be remembered not just for beautiful clothing, but for cultural resonance, empowerment, and meaningful impact.”

JALA SUE

#HUSTLEBOOTYTEMPTATS SUPERMODEL

Supermodel Jala Sue is QP Magazine ’s cover superstar of the month, as the breathtaking beauty from Northern Michigan leads the #HustleBootyTempTats brand into 2026 with more momentum than the #HBTT global phenomenon has ever enjoyed before.

The fight for the top of the supermodel analytics and metrics chart is fierce, with Paul Marciano ’s GUESS brand; Victoria’s Secret revitalized campaigns featuring Candice Swanepoel , Alessandra Ambrosio and Emily Ratajkowski ; and the Sports Illustrated Annual Swimsuit Issue all competing for the no. 1 position.

And there’s heavy competition indeed, as the #HustleBootyTempTats brand, created by WWE Hall of Famer and multi-industry disruptor Paul Heyman has stepped up to challenge the legacy brands on their own turf.

“Jala Sue is the embodiment of the #HustleBootyTempTats movement,” exclaimed world-renowned photographer Luis Munoz, the Miami-based lensman who photographed Jala Sue for this exclusive cover feature. “A champion paddleboarder; a mom of four; a globallytrending fitness guru; and a supermodel with offers from every part of the world who is true to her core and never sold out to the big machine.”

Jala Sue says her fitness journey began after she gained 50 pounds with her first pregnancy and then discovering hot yoga. Her journey continued when she gained over 70 pounds while pregnant with her twins. It was through these truly challenging circumstances that she found her strength and resilience and transformed herself into “The World’s Most Beautiful Athlete” in the process.

Along the way, she was personally recruited by Heyman to represent the

#HustleBootyTempTats supermodel brand, and the rest, as they say, is history. “To know Jala Sue is to love Jala Sue,” Heyman exclaimed. “She’s a magnificent professional who leads by example, and it’s an example for all of us to follow. W!LD CH!LD FASHION BUILT ON INSTINCT, NOT APPROVAL

There is a certain electricity that runs through New York at night — restless, unapologetic, and dangerously alive. W!LDCH!LD captures that voltage and translates it into fashion that feels visceral rather than decorative. Described as “New York raw glam,” the brand exists in the tension between polish and rupture, precision and instinct. It’s not about perfection; it’s about presence. Each piece feels lived-in, charged, and intentional — garments that don’t ask permission, but instead demand space.

Founded by Julia Kurzawa whose journey spans German structure and New York rebellion, W!LDCH!LD is built on contrast: architectural silhouettes infused with emotion, European discipline softened by downtown sensuality. Since launching in 2022, the brand has evolved into more than clothing — it’s a catalyst for confidence, a study in how fabric, cut, and texture can transform the way a woman moves through the world. In this conversation, the designer opens up about identity, instinct, and the relentless energy that defines W!LDCH!LD.

W!LDCH!LD is described as “New York raw glam.” What does that phrase mean toyou on a visceral, emotional level?

New York raw glam is relentless. Loud. Hungry. Electric. Like you’re always one moment away from falling apart or becoming iconic — and somehow both at once. The glamour isn’t pristine — it’s earned. Scratched. Lived-in. Real. It feels unpolished confidence. A leather jacket thrown over silk dress. A body moving through the city at 2 a.m., lit by neon bodega signs and taxi headlights. It’s beauty that doesn’t ask permission.

You moved from Germany to New York over a decade ago. How did that transitionreshape your identity— and ultimately, your design language?

Moving from Germany to New York cracked something open in me — in the best possible way. Germany shaped my foundation: precision, structure, respect for craft, discipline. There’s a clarity and restraint in German design culture that taught me to think deeply before making anything. But emotionally, I always felt there was something missing — a certain chaos, risk, sensuality. New York gave me permission to break the grid. When I arrived, the city overwhelmed me at first — the noise, the speed, the contradictions living side by side. People here wear their ambition on their skin. They reinvent themselves without apology. That energy seeped into me. Identity-wise, I became bolder. Less afraid of taking up space. More comfortable with contradiction — soft and hard, elegant and abrasive, vulnerable and armored. New York taught me that authenticity doesn’t need to be polished to be powerful.

something that lasts. Something with emotional weight. Something that could shift culture, inspire people, leave a trace long after I’m gone. I remember sitting at my desk late one evening, screens glowing with numbers, and I thought: none of this will exist in ten years. None of it is mine. None of it changes how people feel when they walk through the world. But the ideas in my head — silhouettes, images, worlds, atmospheres — those felt permanent. Like they had a pulse. Like they could outlive me if I gave them form.

W!LDCH!LD feels both architectural and instinctual. How do structure and emotion coexist in your design process?

They coexist the same way they do in a human being — bone and pulse.

“New York taught me that authenticity doesn’t need to be polished to be powerful.”

Structure is my starting point. It’s the invisible architecture that holds everything upright: proportion, construction, balance, intention. That comes from my background, the need to understand how something stands, not just how it looks. A garment has to feel inevitable, not accidental. But emotion is what gives it life.

Once the structure is there, I allow instinct to take over. I think about movement, tension, vulnerability, power. I think about the moment someone puts the piece on, how it changes their posture, their breathing, their presence. Emotion enters through texture, cut, exposure, weight. Through what is revealed and what is protected.

Your silhouettes are bold yet intentional. Who is the W!LDCH!LD woman, and how does she move through the world?

The W!LDCH!LD woman is a state of mind.

Before fashion, you were on a path toward finance. What was the exact moment you realized creativity was non-negotiable for you?

The moment I realized creativity was nonnegotiable came when I understood that I didn’t just want a career — I wanted to build

She doesn’t wait to be seen; she decides to be seen. There’s a quiet authority in the way she moves — not loud, not performative, but undeniable. When she enters a room, the atmosphere shifts slightly, like air pressure changing before a storm.

She is both armor and exposure. She understands softness as strength and sharpness as elegance. She chooses silhouettes that frame her presence, not hide it.

JULIA KURZAWA
“The W!LDCH!LD woman doesn’t wait to be seen; she decides to be seen.”

She moves through the world with awareness. Of her body. Of her space. Of her impact. She walks like the city belongs to her, but never needs to prove it. She is sensual without trying, powerful without force, vulnerable without weakness. She doesn’t follow trends. She follows instinct.

Your work balances European precision with New York boldness. How do these two worlds dialogue within each collection?

The real magic happens in the materials. I love playing with textures — embossed leather, crocodile and ostrich embossing, feathers, soft silk linings. Zippers aren’t just functional; they become graphic, expressive elements. Soft fur combined with rigid leather, feathers add movement, embossing adds tension. Every fabric, every surface has its own pulse, and I let it speak.

W!LDCH!LD pieces are described as “moments.” What does it mean to you when someone wears your designs?

The best part is hearing our customers’ feedback. When they tell me how wearing a piece made them feel empowered, how they received compliments all night, how it changed the way they moved or carried themselves — that’s what we call the W!LDCH!LD effect: a transformation where confidence grows through our design.

Every zipper, feather, embossed leather detail, and drape of fur becomes a tool for presence, awareness, and power.

As a founder, designer, and creative force, how do you protect your vision while scaling the brand?

Protecting my vision while scaling W!LDCH!LD is about clarity, consistency, and intentionality. I’m involved in every step — from the silhouette to the fabric, from the finishing details to the way the brand communicates. That hands-on approach ensures every piece carries the DNA of the brand.

At the same time, scaling requires trust. I

surround myself with a team who understands the ethos — people who can execute without diluting it. I set nonnegotiables: the structure, the instinct, the tactile details, the attitude. Everything else can evolve, but the core remains untouched.

What has been the most unexpected lesson you’ve learned since launching W!LDCH!LD in 2022?

The most unexpected lesson since launching W!LDCH!LD has been realizing that impact isn’t just about what I create — it’s about how it makes others feel. I expected the designs to carry my vision, but seeing customers step into them, feel empowered, receive compliments, and move with confidence showed me that the brand truly comes alive through them. I learned that designing isn’t just about making pieces — it’s about creating moments that transform. Along the way, we realized how important consumer education is — helping people understand the health and comfort implications of the fabrics they wear. That’s why we use natural fabrics like silk and cotton for linings, never polyester or synthetic alternatives. We noticed a trend among conscious consumers shifting away from fast fashion toward slow, intentional fashion, recognizing that it’s smarter to invest in statement pieces that last rather than chase fleeting trends. Every choice — from fabric to texture, from embossed leather to zippers — matters because luxury, comfort, and empowerment are inseparable, and the brand’s impact comes to life through the people who wear it.

In a saturated fashion landscape, how do you stay instinctive rather than reactive?

In a saturated fashion landscape, staying instinctive means listening to the pulse inside, not the noise outside. We don’t follow trends — we create pieces that last, that are timeless yet edgy. It’s about trusting instinct: the tension between structure and emotion, the dialogue of fabrics, textures, and silhouettes. Being

“The glamour isn’t pristine — it’s earned. Scratched. Lived-in. Real. It’s beauty that doesn’t ask permission.”

reactive is easy; being instinctive is harder. But that instinct ensures W!LDCH!LD remains bold, unforgettable, and unmistakably ours, creating moments that transform rather than pieces that fade.

What does success look like to you now—has it changed since the brand’s inception?

Success today isn’t only about visibility — it’s about impact and empowerment. Seeing our Lady Gaga wear one of our pieces on stage is incredible, but the real magic is watching everyday women step into W!LDCH!LD , feel confident, and command their space. We also realized how vital educating consumers is —

teaching them that natural fabrics, thoughtful design, and investment pieces aren’t just luxury, they’re a choice for comfort, health, and longevity.

Finally, what’s next for W!LDCH!LD, and how do you envision its evolution over the next five years?

The next chapter of W!LDCH!LD is about expanding globally and breaking new ground. We’re exploring artist collaborations and experimenting with innovative textures and material combinations, while staying committed to natural materials and dedicated craftsmanship.

“Being reactive is easy; being instinctive is harder, but instinct is what keeps W!LDCH!LD bold, unforgettable, and unmistakably ours.”

WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT TO DRESS LIKE A CELEBRITY?

Fashion may seem simple at first glance, but what follows is a captivating experience. Fashion is truly about beauty, and this is what women cherish. Regardless of the creativity and strategy of a fashion brand, an outfit, when worn by a celebrity, can become a walking showcase. People always assume that celebrity outfits are the right style. Women often wear Hailey Bieber's polka-dot pants paired with sleeveless tees or Dua Lipa's tank tops. Likewise, Sabrina Carpenter's style is very feminine and young chic. However, their outfits are only copied momentarily by women, perhaps because they run out of references or are experimenting. Celebrities with their fashion are like true influencers, without even realizing it. Whatever it is, it all comes down to individual character; some people simply fit the fashion style of a celebrity, while others don't. Yes, reference and experiment.

THE ACT OF PRESTIGE

Schoolmates, workmates, close relatives, neighbors, and anyone close to you can suddenly change the way they dress. Celebrity fashion styles then become a reference. Those who usually wear only t-shirts and jeans suddenly wear jumpsuits like Kim Kardashian . Indeed, Kim Kardashian loves wearing jumpsuits or skinny outfits. To achieve this, these people strive to buy and own these celebrity outfits. Sacrificing for the price is a must. Once they wear the outfit, it's no longer for experimentation and daily fashion reference, but for prestige, maintaining social status, and garnering praise at social gatherings. However, there's also something interesting about the behavior of people who uphold the act of prestige. In their clothing, they appear very serious, even if they don't have a fashion stylist. Just look at someone wearing a Taylor Swift outfit. They'll look for earrings and a bag in silver tones with a glowing texture, not a dull silver. Next, you should look for a black top with a nylon or wool texture. But that's not all; the cut at the elbows and neckline should also be different, not circular, but square. Then, for the bottom, it should definitely be a stretchy balloon skirt, for a slim and tall look, and it should fall slightly below the knee. High heels should also have crisscrossed straps.

PROVING FASHION OBSERVATION

Fashion always combines the strange and the intriguing in every product. Even the most absurd designs are perfectly wearable. All products are styled within a product story, and when worn by celebrities, they seem to have a lively conversation with us, and we, too, seem to listen intently to their conversation, like an outpouring of our hearts. Fashion never stops with its products, and women, once they observe them, immediately prove it by buying them. Ripped T-shirts, jackets with four layers, bags that resemble plastic trash bags, high-heeled sandals, and many more. At first glance, the products may seem ridiculous, but they're still worth trying out of curiosity about the experience of wearing such a strangelooking product. In this case, the absurdity is a normal proof of the observation.

SPECIAL THANKS TO LINDSEY BLICK

When did you first realize creativity would be more than a passion—it would be your purpose?

Creativity was never something I chose; it was something that consistently chose me. It’s what I am. From a very young age, movement, storytelling, and expression were the ways I made sense of the world. Over time, I realized that creativity wasn’t just how I expressed myself- it was how I served others. Your gifts are your purpose. When I saw how deeply the arts could shape confidence, healing, and identity, I understood this wasn’t a hobby or simply something I was lucky to have come to know of. It was a calling. I am what I share and speak about. I am made of my creativity and transformation. I can’t be anything else.

As an actress and studio owner, how has your own journey as a performer shaped how you mentor young artists?

My journey taught me that talent alone is never enough. I mentor from lived experienceunderstanding rejection, discipline, vulnerability, and resilience. I prioritize emotional safety, self-trust, and integrity just as much as technique. I don’t train performers to chase validation; I guide them to build a strong inner foundation so their artistry can last. When you live what makes you happy, what feeds your soul, you are the embodiment of success and fulfilment. Loving moment to moment releases the dependency for external recognition. Enjoy the journey. I’ve built inner wealth. My world around me reflects what’s inside me. I lead by example.

Artistic expression allows youth as well as adults to process emotions, develop identity, and feel seen in a world that often asks them to shrink or conform. There is no wrong in a creative flow state- there’s you simply being in your expression without judgement. Kids are naturally more in their creative to begin with. They live in a state of flow util they begin to mature. It is also typically conditioned out of them, unfortunately. I (we) help teach kids how their flow states and creativity can be their superpower. For adults, its more about retraining and reframing “shoulds and shouldn’ts”. At the core, we all want to live in our joy, move from our passions and be loved.

Dance Masters has become more than a studio—it’s a safe space. What values do you intentionally cultivate?

“Creativity was never something I chose; it was something that consistently chose me.”

Respect, inclusivity, accountability, and authenticity. Every student deserves to feel valued and positively encouraged. We cultivate discipline without fear, excellence without comparison, and confidence without ego. It’s a space where growth is encouraged, mistakes are normalized, and individuality is celebrated. The teachers practice and embody what they teach.

What are some of the most transformative moments you’ve witnessed in your students?

Why do you believe the arts are such a powerful tool for personal development, especially for youth?

Let’s not give up on adults. The arts teach people how to inhabit themselves fully with the most authentic truth. They learn emotional literacy, confidence, collaboration, and courage- skills that translate far beyond the stage or screen. The same is needed for anyone 18 and older.

Watching a child who once hid in the back of the room step forward with confidence never loses its power. I’ve seen students find their voice, overcome anxiety, and develop self-belief that carries into every area of their lives. Those moments remind me that this work changes trajectories- not just performances. Anyone who shifts from navigating life from fear to moving with joy and self-love, is an incredible thing to witness. I am most grateful for those moments.

What inspired you to found Builders Of A Better World?

I saw first-hand how access to the arts could change lives- and how many children were excluded due to circumstance. Builders Of A Better World was born from the belief that creativity, emotional intelligence, and opportunity should never be privileges. It was

“Talent alone is never enough.I mentor from lived experience, not theory.”

my answer to inequity. Builders is a movementnot a performing arts centre. It’s a way to move through life in the best way I’ve come to learn how.

Can you walk us through the mission of the nonprofit?

It is understanding that building your outer world requires building inner wealth. Building a better world is an inward to outward process. Our mission is to empower children and communities through creative arts/education and social-emotional learning. We provide access to performing arts programs while nurturing leadership, emotional regulation, flow states, empathy, and self-awareness. We’re not just teaching skills- we’re shaping confident, compassionate humans. The more happiness you embody yourself, the better you can positively contribute to others.

Why is emotional intelligence just as important as creative skill?

Creative skill without emotional awareness is unsustainable. Emotional intelligence allows individuals to regulate stress, collaborate effectively, and lead with integrity. It’s the difference between short-term empty success and long-term genuine fulfilment. It’s truly a movement that goes beyond oneself.

How do creative arts education and leadership training work together within the nonprofit?

The arts naturally develop leadership. Students learn self-discipline, mental mastery, communication, responsibility, and presence. We intentionally reinforce these skills, helping young people understand how their voice, actions, and creativity can positively impact others.

What gaps did you see in underserved communities that compelled you to act?

A lack of access, representation, emotional support, quality curriculum, effective mentorship, dependable course offerings, safe environments, creative acceptance, embraced individuality, healthy adults, whole-health (body, mind, soul) resources/information/ guidance, and I could go on. Many programs

focus on performance outcomes or simply just essentially babysitting, without addressing the inner lives of children or any real intention towards enrichment or impact. I wanted to create something holistic—where creativity, emotional health, and opportunity intersect.

What challenges did you face transitioning into nonprofit leadership?

Learning to scale impact while maintaining integrity was a significant challenge. Nonprofit leadership requires strategy, sustainability, and collaboration at a high level. I had to grow quickly, trust my vision, and surround myself with people aligned with the mission. We are still growing and therefore still needing to expand/increase our resources.

How do you balance artistry, leadership, and sustainability?

By honouring my own inner compass as much as my inspiration. Creativity thrives when supported by systems. I lead with clarity, delegate intentionally, and remain deeply connected to why this work matters. I don’t overextend myself anymore. I lead with transparency and continue to be the example for my team and how to love the process even when it becomes challenging. Art is in everything I am and do. My day are made up of what I love and who I am.

How does personal style factor into your leadership and creativity?

Personal style is another form of self-expression. It’s how I embody confidence, authenticity, and presence. When I show up fully as myself, I give others permission to do the same.

Which role has taught you the most about yourself?

Leadership has taught me patience, courage, humility, and resilience. Leading others requires deep self-awareness and constant growth. However, with a life as dynamic as mine, I grow for myself every day. I am always learning and expanding. The piece of myself that I identify the most with is being a student of this life. I am more humble than proud. The more I know, the less I know. I don’t lead by instructing. I lead the most by being.

“Your gifts are your purpose—when you share them, you serve.”

What does “impact” truly mean to you?

Impact is transformation. It’s the quiet moments where someone realizes their worth, finds confidence, or feels hope for the first time or anytime. Numbers matter, but lives changed matters the most- that includes my own. Impact is perceived, and I always say “that which you see, you see with”. For every other person, adult or child, that I see change, I myself am changed by.

What goals do you have for expanding Builders Of A Better World?

We aim to expand programs into both underserved as well as, shall we say, privileged communities, while also strengthening more partnerships, and scale our impact without compromising quality or values on an international level. Builders in intended to be a local community-oriented celebration of our imperfectly perfect humanness as a collective. We share arts, stories, personal growth, passion, and a zest for loving this life everywhere!

Why is community involvement essential to the nonprofit’s vision?

Because meaningful change is collective. Volunteers, donors, and advocates help create a ripple effect that sustains and expands the mission. We rely on support and encouragement to have what we need to provide all that we do.

What advice would you offer creatives who want to give back?

Be fit for service first. Give what feels best for you. Start with us! Builders needs you. You don’t need a perfect way or plan- just intention and action. Your gifts matter, and when shared, they multiply.

How do you hope the next generation will redefine success?

By measuring success through fulfilment, integrity, and impact- not just status or profit. Move from alignment and coherence. Be the change.

What legacy do you hope to leave?

A legacy that would not be about me. It’s about people knowing and feeling that art can heal, education can empower, and service can transform. It’s about unified consciousness and healing by proximity. I can’t think about how I am to be acknowledged or externally perceived. I choose to only think about the present moment. In this moment, this is my life and I have all that I need for myself. I serve a collective bigger than me. Builders by definition being a nonprofit isn’t owned by anyone. The work of Builders will be reflective of the collective it’s made of in entirety. I am/ was a part of an origin story. My hope is for it to go far beyond little ol’ me. That legacy will take more than I can do on my own.

“Building a better world is an inward-to-outward process.”
