Knowledge is Power!

The more knowledge you have the more power you have.

My mother use to say the world is full of educated fools. There is more way to get an educating you can be self taught. I had a friend who had her own business she ask me to help find a plumber to install a hot water heater. I check around and I found one. He came and gave her quote she told the man I will get back with you. She went and bought herself a book on installing a hot water heater. She and her son installed the hot water heater. When I saw her again about a week later. I ask was the mans work satisfactory, she stated if that little ugly man could install that hot water she definitely could. She stated, “he eighter learn how from someone else, are he got it from a book.” I learn to read with understand a long time ago. Today all you have to do is go to YouTube someone will talk you threw it.

Change can come through education this has always been the source of our change. The more you know the less you have to ask others. Wherever you can get information get it. The more you know the less you have to depend on others.

If you have not at least finish high school, this is a must. The world is too technical for us to survive without it. There are college graduate out of work. People that have no education, or little education will always try to prove how smart they are. Being smart is not bragging how smart you are. It when other’s say you are smart.

1.

Technical School-Booker T. Washington had a famous quote he stated, Black people don’t need a college degree they only need a technical education. This quote have proven to be true. The world has grown to be technical.

On the Job training-Go find someone who is doing some work that you would like doing, and learn from therm. Ask question and everyday try to learn something different, everyday. Read book look at video on all aspects of that business. Keep up with the latest and greatest information. You can also become a game changer.

Having a degree does not say how smart you are all it say you are able to stick to something long enough to finish.

Shirley Chisholm was a political leader with a strong moral sense and courage to stand up for her beliefs. She spent her childhood in Barbados with her grandmother, and realized the importance of the traditional British-style education she received there. The education incorporated strong ideals in her, which shaped her future career. She started off as a teacher and was concurrently involved in political activities as well. Her strong leadership skills led her to eventually join politics, in spite of her being, as she herself termed it, a “double handicap” both black and a woman. Chisholm swiftly made a name for herself with her brand of fearless politics. She highlighted key issues throughout her career, especially those regarding education opportunities, racial equality and women empowerment. Her decision to run for presidency was an attempt to make a statement, to make people consider African-Americans as-well-as women as serious candidates.

Against all odds and in spite of knowing well that she did not possess the required resources to mount a serious challenge, Chisholm went ahead with her campaign and won more delegates than anyone expect.

Barbara Jordan (1936-1996) was an influential American lawyer and politician, renowned for her powerful speeches, particularly during the Watergate hearings, and her groundbreaking role as the first African American woman elected to the U.S. Congress from the South.

3.

She stated, “within the next 5 years she would like to expand her business into a larger building, with more room to grow.” She also stated, “she along with her husband, started this business in 2016.” She said, they started this business for their children and grandchildren. She and her husband have 5 children and 7 grandchildren. They wanted to leave something behind so there family would have something to build on to grow family wealth for there families, and to keep hope alive. She also Caters events, and hope to in the feature have a delivery component to her business.

Medical Exploitation of Black in Health care

Medical exploitation of Black people in America goes far beyond the cells stolen from Henrietta Lacks that produced modern daymiracles.

ruing her treatment, a illegally profiting from Lacks’ genetic material. “Black suffering sample of her cancer cells was taken without her knowledge or consent. In the lawsuit, Thermo Fisher was accused of unjust enrichment and has fueled innumerable medical progress and profit, without just compensation or recognition,” the lawsuit said.

Henrietta Lacks’ cells, known as HeLa cells, have had a profound impact on medical science since they were first taken from Lacks in 1951. Those cells have contributed to the development of the polio vaccine, research into cancer, studies on the effects of radiation and toxic substances, gene mapping and countless other scientific pursuits.

But nearly all of these advancements happened without her and her family’s approval – or compensation.

Lacks is one of the most well-known examples of medical exploitation on a Black body. It is far from the only example.

Medical abuse is a part of Black history

In 2020, the American Public Health Assertion declared racism a public health crisis

The declaration, while important, speaks solely to present inequities and plans to advance racial equity in the future. But minimal attention has been afforded to the deep historical roots of anti-Black racism in the medical industry.

Medical exploitation and intentional abuse of members of the Black community is an often overlooked part of Black history. But understanding the issue is critical in order to better analyze today’s mistrust of the medical profession by many in the Black community.

In a case that revealed the exploitation of a Black woman beginning in the 1950s and extending for 70 years, Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. in 2023 settled a lawsuit that the estate of Henrietta Lacks had filed against the biotech firm for its role in what the lawsuit called “a racially unjust medical system.”

In 1951, Lacks was diagnosed with cervical cancer at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, one of the only hospitals in the area that would treat African Americans at the time.

As a Black scholar who uses critical approaches to study culture, communication and health, I have my own experiences and peer-reviewed research that reveal various ways the Black community experiences racism within the health care industry.

The Tuskegee experiment is one of the most well-known examples of medical exploitation in the Black community. The federal government from 1932 to 1972 lied to around 600 men about receiving treatment for syphilis. They were studying the effects of syphilis in the men, but did not, in fact, treat it in 399 of the men.

Insurance is necessary for several important reasons.

Financial Protection-unexpected events like accidents, illness, natural disasters, or theft can lead to large expenses.

Insurance helps cover these cost, reducing the financial burden on individuals and families.

1. Risk Management Life is unpredictable, and some risks are beyond our control. Insurance spreads the risk among many people or entities, so no single person bears the full loss.

19.

2, Peace of mind knowing you’re protected against major financial setbacks helps reduce stress and worry. Insurance provides a safety net, allowing you to focus on recovery and daily life.

4. Encourage Responsibility Behavior. Certain types of insurance (like health or auto insurance) promote safer behaviors. For example, having auto insurance may incentivize safer driving to avoid premium increases.

5. Legal or Contractual Requirements

Some insurance types are leally required (auto insurance to drive, workers’ compensation for employers). These laws protect all parties and ensure accountability.

6. Supports Economic Stability Insurance helps individuals recover quickly from setbacks, maintain economic productivity. It also funds health care, disaster relief, and other essential services.

7. Promotes Savings and investments. Some insurance policies (Whole life or endowment plans) serve as saving tools. They help build a financial reserve for future needs.

In summary insurance is necessary because it provides security, reduces financial risk, supports responsible behavior, and promoted societal stability. It’s a vital tool to protect you, your family, and your community from life’s uncertainties.

Teaching children about money

Start early with allowances give your children a small, regular allowance. Teach them to set aside a portion of it for savings before spending.

Use a Piggy Bank or Saving Jar encourage your kids to have a visible place to save money. Make it fun by decorating the piggy bank or jar together.

Set Saving Goals help children set specific goals, like saving for a toy, game, or outing. Show them how saving a little over time can reach their goals.

Teach the 50/30/20 Rule (or a simple version) explain how to divide money: 50% for needs, 30% for wants 20% for savings. Adjust percentage on age and income.

Many are shocked to find out that the study lasted 40 years.

Then 94-year-old Herman Shaw speaks at a 1997 White House ceremony about the abuse he received during the Tuskegee syphilis story

Cautionary tale of the flawed Tuskegee experiment revolutionized how research was conducted and had various implications for the The lack community.

But as revealed in medical ethicist Harriet A. Washington’s groundbreaking book “Medical Apartheid,” the medical exploitation of the Black community extended far beyond Tuskegee.

Grave robbing in Black communities

The 18th and 19th centuries ushered in a new method of medicine focused on increased anatomical knowledge and dissections.

In turn, more cadavers were needed, but the demand for cadavers far exceeded the supply. Moreover, at the time, social attitudes toward dissection and dismemberment of a corpse were not positive; they were primarily perceived as punishment for the most heinous criminals.

The solution at the time was grave robbing.

People would steal not only the bodies of the enslaved who had died but also the corpses of Black men, women and children from their graves and sell them to medical schools.

At the turn of the 18th century, most of New York City’s dissection tables were full of Black bodies, despite members of the Black community’s accounting for only 15% of the population at the time

This practice was also extremely common in Maryland and Virginia. In fact, Virginia Commonwealth University officially apologized for this practice in September 2022.

But in early 2023, Virginia lawmakers failed to pass a resolution formally acknowledging and apologizing for this inhumane treatment in their commonwealth.

Unethical experiments on the incarcerated

From the 1950s through the 1970s, Philadelphia health officials allowed the prominent researcher Dr. Albert M. Kligman to conduct dangerous experiments on incarcerated people, most of whom were Black.

Kligman repeatedly and purposely exposed Black men to dermatological, biochemical and pharmaceutical experiments. One of the most significant was testing dioxin, the toxic chemical in the biochemical weapon Agent Orange

The city of Philadelphia and related institutions officially apologized in October 2022, but the apology does not remedy the lifelong scars and lingering health impacts from the experiments.

The city of Philadelphia and related institutions officially apologized in October 2022, but the apology does not remedy the lifelong scars and lingering health impacts from the experiments.

This practice is not only a relic of the past.

Incarcerated individuals in Arkansas were given a cocktail of drugs, including Ivermectin, to treat COVID-19. It is important to note that Ivermectin was not and has not been approved by FDA for the treatment of COVID-19.

Black women continue to die during childbirth more than others. Black men have the shortest life span of any U.S. demographic represented in current data, and the Black community overall has the shortest survival rate of any racial group for most cancers

Systemic racism and negative attitudes from medical personnel are Offit is also important to show how racism is still prevalent in contemporary medicine and public health.

After suffering a long list of side effects, the men were informed that one of the drugs they received was Ivermectin, a drug usually used to treat cows and horses

This abuse of Black bodies who were incarcerated did not affect just men. Black women experienced abuse and exploitation in a different form.

They were often forcibly sterilized without their consent.

Between 1909 and 1979, California forcibly – and legally –sterilized around 20,000 women, most of whom were Black women and other women of color who were incarcerated or under state guardianship because of some perceived incapacity.

In North Carolina, sterilizations were also used against Black women in state institutions to “weed out any feebleminded.”

Why it matters

end to blame. Black men are often viewed negatively by doctors. Many Black cancer patients are not offered the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that could help them.

A groundbreaking study published in Psychological and Cognitive Sciences in 2016 revealed a somber truth: Some medical professionals still believe there are biological differences between Black and white patients.

In turn, they are less likely to treat Black patients for pain. The study further found that nearly half of the medical students in the study believed Black people have less sensitive nerve endings.

It’s my belief that revealing the dark history of medical racism is key to making sure that past injustices do not recur. INGRETIENTS

Collard greens (Brassica oleracea), a leafy green vegetable in the cabbage family, are packed with nutrients and easy to grow. Growing them in pots is a great option for people with limited garden space or poor soil conditions. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you grow healthy and productive collard greens in containers.

1. ChoosetheRightPot

Size: Collard greens need a relatively large pot to grow well. Choose a container that is at least 12 inches deep and 12-18 inches in diameter. The larger the pot, the better the plant will grow.

Material: Terra cotta, plastic, or fabric pots work well. Fabric pots provide good aeration to the roots and allow for better drainage.

Drainage: Ensure the pot has drainage holes. Without good drainage, the roots can become waterlogged, leading to root rot.

2. Select the Right Soil

Type: Collard greens thrive in loose, well-draining soil that is rich in organic matter. A good-quality potting mix designed for vegetables is ideal. Avoid using garden soil, as it may be too heavy and compact for container gardening.

8.

pH Level: Collard greens prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil, with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5. You can test the soil’s pH with a soil testing kit and amend it if needed with lime (to raise pH) or sulfur (to lower pH).

3. Planting Collard Greens

When to Plant: Collard greens grow best in cool weather, so it’s best to plant them in early spring or late summer for a fall harvest. In warmer climates, you can grow them year-round, especially in the cooler months.

Planting Seeds:

Fill your pot with soil, leaving about 1-2 inches of space from the rim.

Plant collard green seeds about ¼ to ½ inch deep and space them 2-4 inches apart. You can plant multiple seeds in one pot and thin them out later if necessary.

Water gently after planting.

Planting Transplants: If you are transplanting young collard green seedlings, dig a small hole in the pot and place the seedling in the hole. Space transplants about 8-12 inches apart.

4. Watering

Collard greens prefer consistent moisture but do not like to sit in water. Water the plants regularly, keeping the soil moist but not soggy.

During hot weather, pots may dry out more quickly, so you may need to water more often.

Check the soil moisture by sticking your finger about 1-2 inches into the soil. If it feels dry, it’s time to water

5. Sunlight Requirements

Collard greens require at least 6 hours of sunlight per day to thrive. Place your pot in a location that receives full sun for most of the day. In hotter climates, some afternoon shade may help prevent the leaves

How to change a flat tire in nine easy steps

Follow these steps to learn how to change a flat tire.

1. Park in a safe location

If you have a flat, stop somewhere safe. The best area is away from traffic, on a flat, firm surface not somewhere that has grass or soft dirt and not in a blind spot or curve, advises Consumer Reports. Be sure to engage the parking or emergency brake and turn on your hazard lights, even during the day, to help other drivers see you.

2. Gather tools and supplies

You’ll typically need the following tools to change a flat tire:

Car jack

Lug wrench

Spare tire

Your car’s owner’s manual

Your car’s owner’s manual could contain great information and additional steps around changing a tire on your specific car.

Additionally, you may want to consider keeping these things in your car or truck for additional safety:

Wheel wedges

Pressure gauge

Flat head screwdriver

Portable tire inflator

Our House MHSA, INC.

3. Loosen the lug nuts.

Lug nuts are screwed onto the bolts and hold the wheels in place. Use your lug wrench and loosen but do not remove the lug nuts, Pep Boys advises. Do this while the car is still on the ground, as the lug nuts may be on so tight that you have to use your body weight to loosen them. Keep in mind that if you have wheel locks on the tires, you may need to use a special adapter to remove them.

If you don’t see your lug nuts, they may be behind a hub cap. You’ll need to unscrew or pry it off with a flathead screwdriver or the end of your lug wrench to pop it off, says Popular Mechanics. Again, you should reference your car’s owner’s manual to see how to remove your car’s hubcaps so you don’t hurt yourself or damage the rim.

4. Position the jack and raise the car

Look at the car's owner’s manual to find out where to put the jack, says Popular Mechanics. These are called jack points, and they are often indicated by a notch in your vehicle's chassis or frame. Using the right jack location helps increase stability and may minimize the chances of damaging your car, Popular Mechanics adds. Slowly raise the car, keeping in mind that you need enough space to put on the inflated spare tire.

5. Remove the lug nuts and flat tire

Once the car is up on the jack, remove the lug nuts and put them somewhere close by, suggests Popular Mechanics. Putting them in your upturned hubcap is a good trick so they don't roll around and get lost. Then remove the flat tire by giving it a good pull, the site says.

6. Install the spare tire

Put your spare tire on by lining it up with the wheel studs which are the threaded fasteners you originally took the lug nuts off of.

Replace the lug nuts. Tighten them by hand but don't use the lug wrench while the wheel is in the air, Popular Mechanics warns, as this may cause the car to fall off the jack.

13.

7. Lower the vehicle Slowly lower the car. Once the wheels are touching the ground, you can remove the jack, Pep Boys advises.

8. Tighten the lug nuts

Get your lug wrench and give the lug nuts a final tighten in a crisscross pattern or as described in your owner's manual. Popular Mechanics warns that not tightening them fully may create an unsafe situation.

9. Put away your tools and check tire pressure

After you have the spare tire attached, gather your tools and store them in a safe location. After all, you never know when you’ll need them again. Then, check the tire pressure of all of your tires to make sure they’re at an ideal level. If any of the tires need air, you can visit a nearby gas station with a free or inexpensive air compressor. You could also inflate the tire on your own if you have a portable air compressor.

Keep in mind that not all spare tires are equal. Depending on which kind you have, you may have mileage or speed limitations you should follow for safety. Here are some helpful things to know regarding spare tires.

What’s the difference between a spare tire and a donut?

Depending on the type of vehicle you drive, you could have a full-size spare tire or a donut spare tire, according to Kelley Blue Book (KBB). Donut spares are smaller and weigh less, making them a popular choice for smaller vehicles. Donut spares can pose safety issues if you drive too fast or too far on them.

How long can you drive on a spare tire?

If you have a donut spare, you should treat it as a temporary solution, according to Tires Plus. It’s recommended you get a permanent replacement as quickly as possible and should not exceed 50 miles on the donut spare. If you have a fullsize spare tire that matches the others, you can continue driving normally without the mileage restriction.

How far can you drive on a spare tire?

While knowing the steps to change a tire are essential, doing it safely is equally important. Whether you're changing the flat tire on the side of a highway or on a quiet side street, following these safety measures can help prevent your tire change from becoming a dangerous situation.

Keep your tools handy

Keep all the tools you need for changing a flat tire in the trunk of your car, suggests Popular Mechanics. You never know when the next flat will happen – so having everything easily accessible in one place will help you stay organized. You also want to be sure you have everything needed to complete the job, so you don’t get stuck partway through the tire change.

Periodically check your spare tire How fast can you drive

Your owner's manual should have directions and safety precautions for your spare tire. Use a tire pressure gauge to check the spare.

Most temporary or "compact" spares should be inflated to about 55 to 60 pounds of air, but your owner’s manual should have the specific amount of pressure for your spare. If your gauge won't read pressure that high, have a professional check for you.

Practice changing a tire

Practice a few times in your driveway or some other safe space with plenty of room, Consumer Reports advises. That way, you may feel more confident when you need to change a tire on the road.

Knowing how to change a flat tire is a useful skill to have in an emergency and may help you from getting stranded on the road or having to wait for roadside assistance if you’re not close to cities or towns that have tow trucks.
