Presented at the 2023 SCUP North Atlantic Conference in Boston, MA on 3/26/24, this slide deck addresses inclusionary processes leveraged in our design practice. Sarah Tarbet, a Senior Associate at Jones Architecture, led this discussion along with Jenny Burton, a Sr Project Mgr with DCAMM, and Jen Holbrook, with A&F at MCC.
This session seeks to highlight inclusionary design practices. To achieve more inclusive design, we are challenging our approach to user engagement and client recommendations, while identifying and dismantling exclusionary processes.
Traditional design processes have resulted in the exclusion of a diverse group of people. It is important to create inclusive spaces by engaging with users throughout the design process & advocating for the importance of belonging.
Inclusive design is about creating and holding equal and equitable space for students & end users to feel seen. Concepts shown in this presentation can be applied to projects large and small.
