In Tokushima, Japan, washi papermaking has been practiced for over 1,300 years. The Fujimori family has made paper at the same mill for over 300 years, across 8 generations. Their craft is one of Japan's most honored living traditions. The sixth-generation master, Minoru Fujimori, was bestowed the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Emperor.

Awagami papers are made from renewable natural fibres: kozo, gampi, mitsumata, bamboo, and hemp. Pure mountain water. No chemicals. Each sheet carries the trace of its making. Long,

interwoven fibres absorb ink softly, giving each print a warmth that no digital surface can replicate.

For the Spring 2026 Art Collection, selected Jonathan Charles artworks are printed on Awagami washi. Two craft philosophies, rooted in the same conviction: that making by hand, with the right materials, produces something no machine can match. One tradition measured in centuries of Japanese heritage. The other, in the hands that have built some of the world's finest furniture.

This series of three oversize antique brass keys by Jonathan Charles draws inspiration from historic ceremonial keys - symbols of trust, authority and transition. Monumental in scale and rich in patina, each key elevates a functional archetype into an object of quiet significance.

Presented within large dark wood frames carved in the spirit of 16th-century Dutch picture frames, the works are further refined by layered cream and navy matting, cut concentrically to create a subtle illusion of depth. The composition draws the eye inward, positioning each key as if suspended within its own threshold.

This four-photo series reflects Jonathan Charles’ appreciation for the poetic power of early photography and the drama of the landscape. Inspired by 19th-century wet plate processes, the blackand-white images depict mist-laden hills where darkness and light exist in quiet tension, punctuated by fleeting shafts of sun.

Tonal richness and subtle imperfections recall a time when landscapes were interpreted through patience and chemistry rather than speed.
