Building a Sustainable Future Together

FROM NOW YOU CAN PLAY A PART

Now you can play a part and reduce environmental impact without compromising on performance. That is the idea behind the products from the ZERO Line by Mapei. The CO2 emissions of products from the ZERO Line are quantified using standardized LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methods.

For every product, the environmental impact is evaluated throughout every stage of its life: from extraction of the raw materials that make up the formula to their transport to the production plant, and then on to the production cycle, its packaging, to waste materials, to transporting the finished product to the distributor, then lastly on to its final disposal.

The residual CO2 emissions from the products of the new Mapei ZERO Line are fully offset using certified carbon credits.

How MAPEI measures CO2

CO2 emissions from our products are expressed in kg CO2eq/kg of product and are calculated using standardised LCA(Life CycleAssessment) methodology.

The results obtained through LCA are then verified and certified by an external body with an EPD, or Environmental Product Declaration, published withThe International EPD System.

Join us for a seminar with SGBC as we present MAPEI solutions for Low-Carbon building materials

Synopsis

As the built environment sector intensifies efforts to achieve netzero goals, low-carbon building materials play a leading role in driving critical progress in moulding a sustainable built environment. With emerging innovations such as carbon-neutral concrete and steel, it is key to align these advancements with global regulations such as environmental product declarations (EPDs) and life cycle assessment (LCA).

Alongside these developments, alternative perspectives on the potential and lifecycle of building materials are useful in reexamining the ways to achieve a low-carbon future. This seminar, supported by SGBC Established Member Mapei Far East, will provide an outlook and analysis of the latest sustainability trends and developments. Diving into the importance of low-carbon construction materials, attendees will also gain valuable insights into the role of EPDs and LCAs in driving a low-carbon future.

Q&A Session The Role of Low-Emission Construction Materials

By Ms Mikaela Decio, Corporate Environmental Sustainability Group Leader, Mapei Far East Pte Ltd

Mikaela Decio

Corporate Environmental Sustainability Group Leader, Mapei Far East Pte Ltd

Mikaela Decio is an accomplished expert in environmental sustainability with a background in Chemistry and Pharmacology Technology from the University of Milan. Since joining Mapei’s Research and Development team in 1999, she has contributed extensively to advancing sustainable practices within the company. Currently serving as Corporate Environmental Sustainability Manager, Mikaela oversees Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), the development of Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for Mapei’s products, and initiatives focused on lowemission materials.

The Role of Low-Emission Construction Materials

Kicking off with an overview of industry sustainability trends from a manufacturer’s perspective, this presentation delves into the importance of life cycle assessment (LCA) in measuring environmental impact and the role of low-emission materials in reducing carbon footprints. Discover the pivotal role that low-emission materials play in reducing carbon footprints and building a low-carbon future.

Gain insights on how Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) can build trust and align with regulatory frameworks. This will be supported by sharing Mapei’s EPD journey to provide real examples and illustrate best practices and the value of sustainable innovation.

Why the initiative can

be relied on

Because we calculate CO2 emissions using LCA methodology with results reported and registered on a verified and certified document (EPD –Environmental Product Declaration) Because credits for offsetting are certified and projects are monitored by international bodies Because our R&D laboratories are constantly developing high quality, durable products but which have less impact on the environment aimed, therefore, at reducing the amount of CO2 associated to the product itself throughout its life-cycle

Delivering projects with offset CO2 emissions

Reduce environmental impact without compromising on performance. That Is the idea behind the products from the ZERO Line by Mapei.

The results obtained through LCA are verified and certified by an external body by means of an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) published with the International EPD System An EPD documents the environmental effect of a product throughout its life cycle and, in the construction sector, are a great help to architects, design engineers and other buyers for a better understanding of the sustainability characteristics and impact on the environment of a product.

Once this figure has been calculated, Mapei offsets emissions by purchasing certified carbon credits to promote renewable energy and forestry protection projects.Acommitment to the planet, to people and to biodiversity. 1 credit = 1 tonne of offset CO2.
