Quilt Making Basics (QMB)

Pattern included

Have you always wanted to make a quilt but don’t know where to start? This class is for you! Our teachers will guide you through the process of creating the top layer of your quilt in this class. Topics explored will be the use of colour theory, fabric choices, rotary cutting and patchwork piecing to create an amazing quilt top. These basic piecing techniques will be used to construct either traditional or modern pieced blocks using squares, rectangle and triangles.

Machine Quilting

$144 - 12 Hours of instruction

Our goal is that you quilt your own quilt with confidence. Starting with needle know-how, methods to mark your quilt top and NUMEROUS thread choices, you will work from walking foot techniques to free-motion fun.

Learn to incorporate stencils, freezer paper designs and Golden Threads paper as part of your design process. Examine how to decide which quilting design will best suit your next project in this four-week class!

Borders, Backing, Batting & Basting

$72 - 6 Hours of Instruction

This is a two class session. Your quilt top is now done (or close to done). In the first class we will go through various types of borders and how to attach the same to come out with a square/rectangle quilt top. In addition we will discuss different types of batting, how to measure and prepare your backing for sandwiching your quilt and sewing your backing together. During the second class you will put all the layers together and make a quilt sandwich. This class is will help empower you to prepare your projects for machine quilting!

Fabulous Finishings - Bind That Quilt!

$72 - 6 Hours of instruction

Once your quilt top has been layered and quilted, the edges still have to be bound and a label needs to be made for the quilt back! In this class you will learn how to make a variety of bindings and discover how to attach these to finish off your quilt! Our instructors will teach you all you have to know for a great finish.

Crimson Christmas

Pattern required

This dynamic quilt is achieved with the use of bold rich colors and varying the shades of each fabric. It creates the illusion of a blossoming poinsettia. This wall hanging or lap quilt will look stunning for the holidays. Start working on the quilt this spring to finish in time for the holidays.

Percy The Penguin

Hand Applique

Have you wanted to learn hand applique techniques? This is a hand work class for you! In this class you will learn needle turn applique using the spray starch applique technique to create an adorable Tilda pillow design.

If you have been interested in learning to appliqué, this class is for you. You will start with the essential equipment and supplies and move on to fabrics, stabilizers and embellishing. You will be exploring hand appliqué, machine appliqué, raw edge and turned edge appliqué, reverse appliqué and, if we have time, Hawaiian appliqué. Come and join Lynette for this exciting and multi-faceted class.

Beginner Foundation Paper Piecing

Using the Economy Plus Quilt Block Foundation Paper piecing pad from It’s Sew Emma, discover the basics of foundation paper piecing! Make one or many to create a pillow, bed runner, or even more to create a quilt! Once you’ve learned the basics, you will be ready to create in the world of foundation paper piecing.

Intermediate Foundation Paper Piecing

Take your foundation paper piecing skills to the next level! This intermediate class will build on beginner FPP skills using a beautiful pattern designed by Tamara Kate Designs. "The Gift" celebrates the fine balance of give and take that keeps nature working so beautifully, as well as a few of the little creatures that do the big work.

Trip Around The World

Pattern required

In this class we will focus on the method of strip-piecing to make a bold and colourful (or gentle and peaceful) lap-sized quilt (53” X 63”). Strip-piecing makes fast work of small squares to create an eye-catching quilt filled with movement.

Skill Level: Confident Beginner. To best enjoy this class, you must be familiar with your sewing machine and be comfortable both using a rotary cutter and sewing a ¼ inch seam.

Harmony

If you enjoy the illusion of 3D patterns, you are going to love Harmony. Using only four fabrics we will create a mesmerizing quilt top of twisting angles and depths that appears as a solid object resting on the background. Pick three colours, or three shades of the same colour and a contrasting background fabric and you’re all set to make this stunning quilt.

One Block Wonder

One Block Wonder quilts are all based on the beauty found in one piece of fabric containing all the colours and design elements to create a magnificent quilt! This is such a fun quilt to make. Using six repeats of any very interesting fabric, you will cut 60 degree triangles and join them into hexagons. The magic happens because there are no yseams. We will also make several different 3-D cubes to add even more fun and interest to your quilt

Cathedral Window Pillow

Create a beautiful Cathedral Window pillow! This style of quilt is quilt-as-you-go, with no batting or backing required. Learn the skills to create a beautiful pillow, or extend your project to make a quilt! The pillow finishes to approximately 13-1/2" x 13-1/2" and can be made to accent your home decor theme.

Laura Heine

Laura Heine has long been recognized as a pioneer in artistic applique. In this class we will explore using motifs to create beautiful designs, using any of Laura’s patterns, or creating your own unique design. Either way, the freedom of expression will be very liberating as we think outside the box of conventional applique.

Pet Portraits

Have you been wanting to create a portrait of your pet but are unsure how or where to begin? Join Susan in learning how to create your own pet portrait. Using a simple technique that anyone can learn, you will create a pattern that will then be used to make a portrait of your pet. You don't need drawing or computer skills. Some homework will be required for the first two classes.

Using this simple technique, Susan has been creating pet portraits for clients and family for the past 10 years. Her work has won numerous awards nationally and internationally, as well as having her work juried into the Houston International Quilt Festival. She was honored to have two of her award winning pieces chosen to be included in a "Best in Canada" Quilt exhibit displayed at The New England Quilt Museum in 2023.

Stand and Stow

Having reusable grocery bags on hand is always a challenge. Time to learn how to make the “Stand and Stow” bag, a sturdy bag with three size options! Using quilting cotton and a couple notions, you will learn to construct an attractive, reusable grocery tote, suitable for daily use and perfect for gifting! To maximize class time, students will be required to come with all class materials cut in advance.

Adult Learn To Sew

Learn to sew! Gain confidence and learn the very basics of sewing in this absolute beginner class focused on simple straight-line sewing. Includes information about fabrics, thread, and notions as well as tips to help you make your projects look their best.

You will make a cushion cover, a lined tote bag, a cute pin cushion and a handy tool roll to keep your sewing or craft supplies organized. Class includes a printed booklet of notes, your own set of patterns to take home, and access to step-by-step tutorials for our projects. This is a relaxed, fun, no-stress class. Everyone is welcome!

Linnea’s Sewing Club: Weekend Rag Quilt

$66 - 5.5 Hours of Instruction

If you have taken Linnea’s Adult Learn to Sew class or you are confident using your sewing machine and have good basic sewing skills, you are good to go! (Note that this class is not suitable for absolute beginners – please register for Linnea’s Adult Learn to Sew class instead to get started).

April's club features The Weekend Rag Quilt. This quilt is super-cute, comfy and would be perfect for a Mother’s Day gift, a birthday gift or a special surprise for a child in your life. And it’s so quick and easy that you can make it in a weekend!

Defying all the laws of sewing, this comfy quilt is made with the seams exposed which are then "ragged" up to create this fabulous, cozy effect. It uses the Quilt-As-You-Go method and has no binding, so once your patchwork pieces are assembled, you're done!

To maximize class time, students will be required to cut all fabrics at home in advance - cutting instructions will be emailed prior to class.

Linnea’s Sewing Club: Men’s Apron

May's club project will feature a Men's Apron. Join Linnea to make this handy apron for a special cook in your life. Would make a great Father’s Day gift! Pattern includes men’s size along with boy’s sizes – we will make the men’s size in class and you can use the same pattern later to make a matching one for a helper. A great pattern to feature fun theme-printed fabrics or team fabrics.

UFO Days!

YES! You CAN get those Unfinished Objects completed. Join either our north or south store UFO groups once a month, and get quilting. To participate, register by contacting either store location!

Join us for quilting camaraderie as we share laughs and stories … There’s no instruction in the class but we’ll always help each other out! UFO Days are from 10-4 at both store locations!

Important Class Reminders!

 Class registrations are non-refundable.

 Class supply lists are available on-line. Don’t have internet access? A supply list can be printed off instore at your request!

 Please have your class supplies purchased prior to your class start date.

 Please ensure your sewing machine is in good working order and that you have a working knowledge of your machine. It is always a good idea to have a printed copy of your machine manual along with you!

 Unless you are in a beginner sewing class, it helps to know how to wind a bobbin and thread your machine.

 All class supplies purchased for your class and during your class time will receive a 15% discount.
