The basement floor marks the beginning of the museum’s exhibits,featuring a café and lounge forvisitors not entering the main galleries.It alsohouses a planetarium for student programs and showcases.Additionally,all back-of-houseoperations are discreetly situated on this level, hidden from public view.

Withanemphasisonextendedlivingspaces,theformoffersmultiplegateways ofentry.InspiredbythewalkabilityofKansasCity,thegatewaysoffervisitors topassthroughtheform.
Withaprivatecourtyardcreatedfromthegateways,angledaxis’arethencutto improvecirculation.
Thesecondlevelisstrategicallyarranged,withlouderroomspositionedfarther awayfromquieterspacestominimizenoisedisturbance.
Roofelevationsaredesignedtofurtherdistinguishthesespacesby accommodatingdifferentnoiselevels.
Theroomsarethenstrategicallycuttodefinecirculationpathwaysbetween spacesandentrances.
Thelinearmovementisaccentuated bytheextendedfaçadeoftheoutdoor patiowhileshowingcirculationinand outsideofthelibrary.
Asvisitorsexitthecourtyard,theyareenvelopedbyasweepingviewofthe entirelibrary,creatinganimmersiveexperience.
Thelobbywelcomesvisitorswithcuratedcollectionsandinvitesyoungreaders tothesecondlevel,wheretheycanexplorethechildren’ssection.

TheobjectiveoftheUrbanFarmprojectwastoseamlesslyintegratean environmentallyconsciousbuildingintoanurbanlandscape,prioritizinga minimalenvironmentalfootprint.Mandatedtoutilizelightweightsteeland glass,thestructureingeniouslyincorporatesaeroponictowersforavertical farmingapproach.Criticalfunctionalzones,suchasloadingdocks,processing rooms,andmechanicalspaces,werestrategicallydesignatedwithinthebuilding. Tomaintainatransparentandengagingrelationshipwiththepublic,the structureboastsaclearfacadevisiblefromthestreet,offeringaninvitingdisplay oftheinnovativeagriculturalpracticestakingplacewithin.
Thebuildingisdesignedtooptimize daylightingandharnesssolar, wind,andwaterenergy,ensuring sustainabilitythroughoutthespace.
Giventhesite’scontextamong residentialandcommercialbuildings, itwasessentialtodesignthebuilding asaspacewherethecommunitycan cometogetherandsharemeaningful experiences.

Thebuildingfeaturesanopeningthat floodsthelobbywithnaturallight uponarrival,whilealsoproviding sunlighttotheaeroponictowersand otherareasthroughoutthebuilding.

Thefarmersmarketfeaturesasteel andglasswallthatpartiallyshields theimportingtrucksfrompublicview whileprovidingshadetothemarket area.Additionally,thewallistopped withsolarpanelsandsolarwater pumps,whichservebothasshading elementsandsourcesofrenewable energy.

Thesemodelsenhancedmycomprehensionofhowvariousmaterialsexhibit distinctstructuralandlightproperties.Throughtheexplorationoflightsurfaces, Idiscoveredthetransformativeeffectofflippingtheentireproject,unveiling novelperspectivesandgeneratinguniquelightproperties.Thecubeproject,in particular,providedme withafreshoutlookonlighting,utilizingharshcontrasts frombehindtoalterperceptions.Thisexperiencebroadenedmyunderstanding ofmanipulatingbothsurroundingandinteriorlighting.
Throughfeedbackandreview, Igleanedthatabstractelements captivatetheeye moreeffectively. Myintentionwastocraftajourney that,atfirstglance,appears intricatelycomplex,enticingthe viewertodelveinandexplorethe intricaciesoftheJourney.
