Many of us drive with our headlamps or at least parking lamps on even during daylight hours, just to add an additional layer of safety. That means those bulbs might have a shorter life than if they are used only at night. When out on the road, you might notice how many cars and trucks have burned-out lights, which are not only unsafe but illegal. n

On Saturday the 8th we met the Canada West people at their annual Porsches and Planes event at the Abbotsford Airshow. There was VIP parking for all of us and a private corporate tent set up for us for the day with refreshments and shade for everyone. August 16th took us to Kamloops for Cars and Coffee at a remote lake about 30 minutes from town. The Kamloops wing of the club had been struggling for awhile until this year when a keen group of volunteers is making an effort to stimulate that area. 17 cars from Kamloops were at that event. This past weekend and the end of the month

ur group started our Saturday, August 8 meeting in Clackamette Park in Oregon City. Aside from some wildfire smoke in the air,
the weather was perfect for driving. The mood was cheerful, and after Scott Dual’s briefing with some goodie-bag hand-outs, we drove from the park and headed into the Cascades toward Detroit Lake. The route had us carving through green forests with sections of burned trees, passing rivers and lakes, and directly by a hillside wildfire flare-up! We finished by descending toward Detroit Lake and met for lunch together at the local food trucks. n

RPCA members set off on a leisurely driving tour winding their way to the remarkable Evergreen Air & Space Museum. There, they
gathered for a hosted lunch paired with wines from the acclaimed Stoller Winery — the perfect reward after a morning of great roads and good company. The Museum’s collection of more than 150 aircraft tells the sweeping story of aerospace, from the wartime ingenuity behind the legendary Spruce Goose flying boat, the SR-71 Blackbird, and the F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter, all the way to the Titan II and the dawn of space exploration. It’s a fitting destination for a club that appreciates beautiful engineering and the thrill of speed. n

P
ersonally, this was a very beautiful 100 mile “Top Down” drive on August
16th that could have also been named the “Most New Roads” drive for several of us. There were about 20 cars, 24 humans and three drive groups. Naturally a few cars slipped into Jim Goetsch’s Group 1! Heinz Holzapfel’s route took us from Ava’s in South Beaverton up over wonderfully twisty OR210 to Bald Peak Road (ssshhh!) and back down on King’s Grade skirting Newberg and through Lafayette, Dayton, Amity, and McMinnville ending at the One Horse Tavern in Gaston where we gathered for good food, beverages and community. This was an appropriate stop after putting 300 to 600 horses to the test along the way. Unforgettable visuals included 15 or so big horned bulls sitting together giving us the stink eye as we pulled onto Edy Road. En

Being the weekend of the Oregon Air Show, several jet fighters blasted overhead on their flight path to McMinnville Airport. Also noted were a circle cloud with two dots in the center (verified visual) somewhere along the way, along with multiple valley and vista views with corn, orchards, berry fields (with u-pickers), sweeping and not so sweeping curves a-plenty ahead, and multiple properties with both old and new dwellings caught our eyes. Well, it wasn’t necessarily a “Sunday Cruise” but all enjoyed the pace of choice by the Group leaders. Thanks, Heinz, for a fun and visually pleasing route! n

n August 19, the August ORPCA monthly dinner social was held at Riccardo’s Restaurante in Lake Oswego. Riccardo’s served us on their Lower Patio which was
perfect for the 39 attendees to socialize and enjoy their meals. The restaurant was busy, but the hard-working and exceptionally friendly servers (a special thanks to our server Zach) who made sure everyone was taken care of quickly. We ordered from a special menu with included two appetizers, salad, a selection from several entrees and tiramisu for dessert. As the night went on, everyone enjoyed good conversations and laughter. The event was another opportunity to enjoy good food and celebrate our car club community. Thanks to Riccardo’s Restaurante for their great service and to everyone who came to make the evening special. ur Three Rivers Midweek drive August 20th started from the Two Rivers Heritage Museum parking in
Washougal, WA. This drive that Dan Wilson put together exceeded expectations! We enjoyed wonderful roads, stunning scenery and great camaraderie throughout the day. Dan mentioned in an email to the group that is was to be an all-Porsche sports car line up! Not a Macan or Cayenne in sight! We encountered countless uphill turns, followed by great views of Mt. Adams. Dan provided us with an equal amount of twisting roads on our way back to The Dalles for an excellent lunch at the Bargeway Pub.

Creating New Memories at the Ackerly ARTICLE AND PHOTOS BY BOB ELLIS

regon PCA created a group called the Community Outreach Committee with the goal of engaging in activities that
enhance the image of the Porsche brand and of Porsche owners. The Ackerly at Reed’s Crossing in Hillsboro, an independent living, assisted living, and memory care community for seniors asked our Club to participate in a small car show they were hosting August 27th as part of a Summer Send-Off for its residents and family members. Club members Jeff Gretz, Tosh Kanno, Bob Ellis, Lynne Roe, Tom Boulac, Ed Proux, Ravi Rajaram, Tim Ashcroft, Dave Schwartz and Chad King stepped up and displayed an even dozen cars. Included as eye candy for the seniors was a Boxster, 911 Turbo, a ‘56 Speedster, a Panamera Sport Turismo, a Cayman, a 914, a 911 Turbo Look, a pair of E Jaguars, a Cadillac Lyriq, a 1929 Mercedes-Benz Gazelle replica and an Aston Martin DB9. The weather cooperated with lots of sunshine so the seniors could mingle with the owners and learn about the cars. The morning concluded with BBQ lunch provided by the Ackerly. A grand time was had by all! n

T
wenty-three members and 17 cars gathered after work at the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in Sherwood for our September evening
drive. The weather looked a little questionable, with an unusually cool September evening and the threat of rain hanging in the air, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s enthusiasm. Our route covered approximately 65 miles and took about an hour and fifteen minutes, winding through the beautiful valleys around Bald Peak before climbing over Parrett and Pete’s Mountains. The roads offered plenty of twists and curves, recently cleared fields, and sweeping views of the surrounding valleys. Fortunately, the rain held off—and as the drive continued, we were even treated to plenty of clear skies and bright sunshine. It made for a perfect evening to enjoy the cars, the scenery, and the company. As the sun began to set, we made our way to Dubs Tavern, where the evening wrapped up with plenty of good food, beverages, and, of course, lots of great stories and tales from the road. Another successful Club drive, another memorable evening, and a great reminder that sometimes the best adventures are found just a few miles from home. n
