WHY
DO WE INVEST IN DNA AND GENOMIC TESTING?
The simple answer is, we are able to offer more predictability and confidence in the genetics you are investing in.
At a basic level, DNA provides confidence in the parentage of the calf. While we spend countless hours recording data, the reality of cow calf production proves us wrong at times. Whether it’s a pair of cows switching calves at birth or the wrong AI gun pulled from the sleeve, by DNA testing calves we are able to prove parentage and assure the bull you are buying is what his pedigree reads.
Improved predictability and accuracy of Genomic Enhanced EPD’s is a huge advantage to you, the buyer, of a young bull. Purchasing a bull with Genomic Enhanced EPD’s is similar to buying a bull with 10 to 36 progeny depending on the trait. Thus, increasing accuracy of EPD’s earlier in life. As an example, GE-EPD’s for birth weight are the equivalent of a bull who has 23 progeny birth weights recorded. Our investment in Genomics is an investment in providing you with genetics that will succeed in your operation.
Welcome to the 11th Annual Zehnder Waage Partnership Production Sale. We are honored that you have taken the time to look through the offering. Trust me, if you choose to do business with the ZW brand you are dealing with high quality people that live to produce a product that works for you. It has been a pleasure to build a relationship with these families over the past decade, their dedication to agriculture and the beef business is second to none. I firmly believe that this is one of the most progressive and forward-thinking operations in the country. Collectively, they are educated in virtually every facet of the cattle business, and they use that knowledge to breed the kind of cattle that work from conception to the rail.
In an effort to continually grow the program, and expand their ability to better serve their customers, they added an Angus division that is used to make Registered Angus and SimAngus cattle. That addition reinforces the key narrative for the program, that hybrid vigor is the most profitable breeding philosophy in the cattle industry. They believe that with a strong maternal base, and highly focused sire selection, you can maximize profitability in your operations. They not only want their genetics to help you build solid foundation to your cowherd, but they also want their bulls to help you access market premiums.
With the cost of cow-calf production being at an all-time high, it has never been more important to invest in premium, no hassle genetics, that are backed by great people. If you have not done business with the guys at Zehnder Waage, I suggest you take the time to reach out to them and ask them about their program. They are some of the best people in the business and they are dedicated to their customers.
If the guys at Zehnder Waage, any of the sale staff, or myself can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
See you on sale day,

1 WDZ RESERVE 5069
Denver has been very good to us over the years, and we were fortunate to capture Reserve Grand Pen of Three, in what was one of the most competitive events in recent years. This year’s lot 1 was the lead bull in that pen and one of the most talked about individuals in the history of our program. In terms of herd sire potential, we think he checks all the boxes. His power and performance are further bolstered by his look of quality and structural integrity. His EPD profile offers nine traits within the top one-third of the breed, with eight in the top 15%. Furthermore, his pedigree offers plenty of breeding flexibility, an attribute that is severely needed in the breed right now. Additionally, a maternal sister was selected by Wright Charolais as a bred heifer in a past National Charolais Sale. This bull has actual performance, phenotypic quality, advanced EPDs, and a proven cow family.

WDZ BANDIT 5054
When we purchased Frontier from Kay-R Charolais in Canada, we had high hopes for his progeny. It is safe to say that he has exceeded every expectation, as two of his first sons made the trip to Denver. Lot 2 is another high performance, good numbered, eye appealing son, who should be on your herd sire list.

Another Frontier son that weighed over 800 lbs. at weaning. This bull is out of a Paradise sired dam, and that genetic line is proven to transmit performance. With WW & YW EPDs within the top 5% of the breed and a 103 YW Ratio, while maintaining below breed average birth weight, we are confident that this bull can produce calves that come easy and excel in growth all the way through the feedyard.
This bull stems from one of the most productive cow lines in the entire herd. The Twizzler cow family has been highly productive for multiple generations, with several daughters that are still working in the herd, including the mother of the Lot 1 bull. The dam of lot 4 has produced bulls that have sold to Jess Peterson, Baudette, MN and Anderson Cattle Co., Stewartville, MN.

The Flatland sire group has been extremely popular on both sides of the border. He stamps his progeny with growth, structural integrity, and a look of quality. The lead bull in this sire group exemplifies those traits and is a true herd sire prospect. Lot 5 was admired by many in Denver, as he offers the appropriate combination of performance, muscle dimension, and eye appeal. In terms of his EPD profile, he excels in growth and carcass without sacrificing critical maternal traits. His maternal granddam is also the dam of the powerful lot 1 bull and his dam was selected by Wright Charolais as our Pick of Bred Heifers in the National Sale.

Lot 6 is another Denver bull, sired by Flatland, out of an impressive Fargo daughter. This bull excels in his weaning and yearling growth traits, posting a 107 and 111 ratio, respectively. The industry is moving towards larger fed cattle that excel in red meat yield. If you’re in need of more punch and power in an attractive package, Reverend needs your consideration.
This bull comes with a more moderate frame and still offers ample growth. I feel that he is very complete in his type and kind with plenty of center body, and good feet and legs. His dam is sired by OW Lead Time, this sire group has been popular here over the past few years.

This Flatland son is clean made, smooth shouldered and well built. The Flatland sire group is very consistent overall. His progeny are all correct in their design, with ample muscle and rib.

We chose to feature this purebred herd sire prospect later in the book as he fell in with the rest of the bulls sired by out-of-herd AI bulls. His lotting in the book has nothing to do with quality, in fact, this is one of the better bulls in the sale. Progeny of SVY Historic have been very popular on both sides of the border, and this bull is an example of why that is. He is ultra-complete in his design, with an excellent EPD profile, and good structural integrity. His dam is a Brooks daughter, which would make her a paternal sister to both Flatland and Great Divide.

62 WDZ RUSHMORE 5011
This is the lowest birthweight of the day, take note heifer bull buyers. His sire, LT Rushmore, is one of the most proven calving ease sires, and this bull should follow suit. We believe he will be a solid choice if you’re looking for ultra calving ease.
Speaking from experience, whatever this bull brings will go directly to Syd to assist in wedding preparation. It helps that he is pretty darn good too. Sired by one of the best female makers in the breed, LT Blue Value, this bull offers advantages in both calving and carcass merit. Make sure to check him out on sale day, Joe would appreciate it.
We wrap up the Charolais bulls with a high performance, big framed, County Line son. Use this bull to add payweight to a set of feeder cattle.
Our Breeding Philosophy
Our breeding philosophy is straight forward. Take care of the basics first and build from there, without losing sight of functionality. With cattle feeding being part of the operation, we fully understand the value of end-product merit; but first we must start with a functional cow base and bulls that hold up in a wide range of environments. Charolais genetics that do what they should, offering modest birthweight and explosive growth with added yield and efficiency in the feedyard. Angus genetics that produce problem free females that wean a heavy calf year after year and bring added carcass value to the feedyard. We strive to use as much science and data as possible to continually improve the genetics we offer you, but you will not find us chasing fads and extremes at the cost of producing cattle that don’t get the basics right.
INDUSTRY FOCUSED, CUSTOMER DRIVEN.
THE ANGUS BULLS
We continue to grow our Angus cow base with the intention of providing a maternal base for our customers and expanding our commercial replacement heifer offering. The Angus cows are not replacing the Charolais cows but rather are intended to complement the Charolais genetics we’ve offered for years. We couldn’t be more excited about the initial set of cows we acquired from Joe and Linda Goggins of Vermillion Ranch, which drove us back there to purchase another set this summer. As we develop our Angus program, we hope you will see our intentional direction to produce a maternal base of problem free females that will deliver economically sound genetics to your operation.
When the guys decided to further expand their Angus cow base, I was fortunate enough to make the trip to Montana to look through a set of cows at Joe and Linda Goggins, that they would end up buying, which are the dams of the bulk of the Angus offering. The majority of those cows were bred to their new herd sire, Circle L Unified. Unified will become one of the more popular sires in the industry over the next few years.
The lead bull in this sire group is an exceptional herd sire prospect that balances phenotype and a solid EPD profile. This is a calving ease bull, who excels in several maternal and management traits. Top 10% HP, 10% FL, 25% CLAW, 20% ANGLE & 2% $M.
