As our family celebrates the 49th year of a “ start-up operation” of two 3rd generation Angus breeders (Andy & Mary) , we pause to honor our Angus heritage that stretches back to 1928 when Johnson Workman (Andy’s grandmother’s brother) sold Walter McCurry (Andy’s grandfather) his 1st registered Angus female. Johnson Workman was renown for his livestock foresight and is credited with having “painted Kansas cattle black”. The historical pictures in our catalog of Johnson Workman’s many times Champion Carloads at the famous Kansas City Stockyards are reminders of the value of the product we produce and market has stood the test of time.
Even in these unprecedented times of high prices we are experiencing, quality matters more than ever. I am reminded of a NCBA Cattle Fax session that stated Nutrition, Health and GENETICS are more crucial and valuable now than ever before. TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Cattle will sell under the suggested Terms and Conditions of the American Angus Association - (http://www.angus.org/Pub/suggested-sale-terms.pdf).
GUARANTEE:
Bulls selling for $4,000 or more are guaranteed against breeding injury for the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided, or if the buyer prefers, credit toward one bull will be given in the following year’s sale, less salvage value of the injured bull. Please notify John as soon as possible should injury occur and PRIOR to the injured bull being sold for salvage. Replacement bulls are not covered by this guarantee.

DELIVERY:
Free delivery by May 1st. We will deduct $100 from the purchase price if picked up sale day or the week of the sale. With spring work & AI and embryo transfer work to be done on our February calving cows in early May, it makes our completing ALL bull deliveries in the 3rd & 4th weeks of April necessary. Buyers cooperation in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Johnson Workman, Andy’s grandfather’s brother. He started Walter McCurry in the Angus business. He had Grand Champion Carloads at the American Royal/Chicago International in 1926, 1927 and 1928.

The McCurry herd has a rich history, boasting over 100 years of Angus breeding. The herd descends directly from Johnson Workman, who was John McCurry’s great-great-uncle and one of the pioneers of the Angus breed in Kansas. He truly left his mark on the state, famously painting it BLACK!
As you study the pedigrees, you are quick to realize the great sires that have been used. Repeat customers have returned year after year to buy these time-tested bulls! Recently, I had the opportunity to observe the McCurry bulls, and they are a sight to behold. You will find many groups with half and three-quarter brothers, all bred with the commercial cow herd and cattleman in mind.
Remember, at McCurry Angus, customer satisfaction is a top priority! In 2023, John McCurry was named the 1st Young Breeder of the Year (inaugural) from the American Angus Association. His mother, Mary, is a former President with the American Angus Auxiliary and was awarded the very treasured Distinguished Woman Award. John’s late father, Andy, was a devoted advocate of the Angus breed and a pillar of strength in the program.
