Starting things off with the influence of Orwell’s hop picking diary, Even though the images were used on the later book, knowing these scenes and creating these thumbnails set the overall tone of the project, concentrating on the darkness that surrounded Orwell’s life, and works.
Continuing that Idea, this page is where the Ideas of the editorial brief started coming through. Basing my work on animal farm, I wanted to bring the hidden themes, and links to the world at that time to the forefront.
From beginning to the end, this was that oh so magical moment of seeing an outcome unfold before you, neither of these images started with the intention of being included within my outcome, but the stars aligned and a lot of things went right. All that was required was some Photoshop work to move things in to place.
Another simple page that I didn't’t expect to influence the project so much. I had an Idea for a page and wanted to work on how it may look digitally also, firing this out before really starting that stage of the project at all.
These thumbnails are where my comic idea changed in to the book that became the result of this stage of the project. This absolutely worked in the outcomes favor, making for much stronger outcomes.
At this point I really embraced the creep factor of the project, trying to figure out just how ghastly my character designs can be, to achieve stronger reactions of repulsion from anybody looking at my book.
On the other side of the spectrum, I started to think about how to have my characters emote with their body language, with a minimal amount of text, I really had to try to get the main point across with how the characters looked.
The outcome still makes me a bit uncomfortable, but that causes me to believe that this section is the the strongest part of my book project.
Although none of the type here made the cut, I don’t regret putting the work in, there’s a lot of re useable ideas that came from stretching the text experimentation.
