Northeast Georgia History Center Meeting begins at 6:30 pm

A Note from the President...

Ladies,

As our mission states the Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County seeks new opportunities to impact our community. In the past few months we have done just that!

The Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County, United Way of Hall County and the North Georgia Community Foundation each voted to assist in developing a new non-profit charitable organization focusing on women’s success. Over the summer the dream of several forward looking women came to fruition-WomenSource was formed. The organization will help the women in our community achieve personal and professional success through counseling, support groups and educational programs. You are invited to the kickoff event, “Power of the Purse,” on Thursday, September 11, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn at Brenau University. I look forward to catching up with you at our first meeting of the year on September 2, 2008. Salad Supper is always a treat. The meeting will begin at 6:30. Please come prepared to meet new people, catch up with old friends and hear about the successes our committees have already achieved. We will offer the opportunity for a “done in a meeting” service project. The September project will benefit WomenSource. If you have any ideas for future projects please contact Julie Cochran, Member Representative at 770-530-1269 She will be coordinating our efforts in this area.

IMPORTANTREMINDERS!

• League members are responsible for bringing in a Quota of $150 of “Thrift Sale Priced” merchandise to the GMC between Sunday, September 28th and Tuesday, September 30th. All quota must be priced with a Sharpie and masking tape according to the pricing sheet received at May Dinner and put away by 8:00 PM on September 30th. Please bring a minimum of 10 bags and 3 boxes with your Quota.

• Remember no books or stuffed animals and nothing priced under $.25!

• Be “PRIZE GIRL” this year! Clean out your house and call family and friends to see if they have any donations. The largest amount of quota will win you the title!

• If you stored any of your Quota in the storage unit this summer please remember to work 30 minutes extra during a General Workshift putting away merchandise.

• Workshift schedule information will be available at the September General Membership Meeting.

• Contact Sabrina Cowart (770)-654-3851 or blondieshouse@charter.net) or LeAnne Walters (770)-5611446 or leanne.walters@yahoo.com) with any questions. Any workshift or Sale Day changes must be submitted in writing to LeAnne or Sabrina. You are responsible for letting us know who your replacement is if you cannot work your assigned times.

• “Smooth Sale-ing” PREVIEWPARTYAND AUCTION is Thursday, October 2, 2008. Doors open at 6:00 PM for double price shopping, dinner and silent auction. THERE IS NO LIVE AUCTION THIS YEAR. Admission for non-members is $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Junior League members’ tickets (for you and a guest) are included in your dues but please RSVPto Keri Smith at the September meeting or call the League Office.

LOOK WHAT’S NEW! DESIGNER CORNER HAS ARRIVED!!

Designer Corner will be a new feature for Thrift Sale this year and will allow you to donate up to $30 of your quota in NAME BRAND CLOTHING and accessories. It will be housed in the New Shop and will have its own price list. All donations to Designer Corner will be collected at the check in table when you sign in for your Quota. Join us for a night of double-priced shopping for the Annual Harvest Thrift Sale, refreshments, and wonderful items to bid on in the silent auction!

Would you like to be able to have first choice at any of the great auction items at the preview party and only pay $50 for the item of your choice? We will be hosting a Poor Man’s auction this year and tickets are $50 for a chance to win! A minimum of 50 tickets must be sold for the auction to be held. In the event less than 50 tickets are sold your money will be refunded to you.

Sustainers, mark your calendars for a special preview reception to this fall’s “Smooth Saleing” Preview Party. It will be held Thursday, October 2nd from 4:00-6:00pm. Enjoy being the first to see and purchase the “treasures” of Thrift Sale. Anew feature this year will be our designer corner with name brand clothing! You will also get a preview of the silent auction items before anyone else can! Be our guest to enjoy the double price shopping in the new shop and arena, light hors d’oeuvres, cheese and wine. A sustainer only special-if you enter during the above hours and stay for the event, you will be our guest the night of Preview Party which begins at 6:00pm. New Member News

Welcome Ladies! We are looking forward to an exciting year and to getting to know each of you better. Please remember that your first very important mandatory meeting will be on September 16th at the History Center. This will be an informative meeting about THRIFTSALE and CHARITYBALL! We are looking forward to seeing each of you there. Although it can be a bit overwhelming with all the meetings and events, you will learn so much about the League and you will meet some wonderful new friends! Please call me with any questions or concerns that you may have! We are going to have a great year.

MONEY MATTERS

Just a reminder that the deadline for payment of the second installment of dues is September 2nd with a $10 late fee for dues paid after that date. You can pay the dues at the General Membership meeting on September 2nd, drop off a check or call the Junior League Office and pay by credit card, or you can pay with VISAor MasterCard on the website. Thrift Sale Tshirts will be on sale at the September General Membership meeting for $10.
