A Note from the President...

Welcome 2008!

We will start our new year with In-Home Meetings. There is still time to sign up for one of these unique meetings. This is a fabulous tradition of our League as we meet in the comfort of our fellow member’s homes. Don’t miss this chance to meet within a small group that you can get to know much better.

As 2008 begins, it also signals that our fundraisers have been completed. I wanted to take this moment to thank our Thrift Sale Chairs, Kelly Lee and Faith Ledford Turchi, and Charity Ball Chairs, Lindsay Wells and Chastity Nix. They have all worked long hours and their dedication and willingness to serve the League is greatly appreciated.

We will be taking part in the 5K Run/Walk Corporate Challenge community event in March. We hope that our active members, sustainers and provisionals will all sign up and take part. Once you sign up, you will receive free access to the YMCAfor eight weeks! This is a great opportunity for our entire League to participate in an event together. We are really looking for our sustainers to come out and join us in this community event. Robyn Lynch can send you a form; just give her a call at the Chamber office at 770-532-6206.

The beginning of a new year – it always appears that we have a clean slate. It’s time to start that new workout, make a fresh change, strengthen our spiritual life, or look around our community and see what needs improving. There are so many areas that need our help. Just as each of us look to see what needs changing as a new year begins, we will continue to search for the best ways that our Junior League can serve others within our community. Let me know if you see any areas within Gainesville and Hall County where a need is not being met. It is obviously our vision to make northeast Georgia a better place for children and families. This month we will be looking at the monetary needs of our agencies and try to send a little help their way. Their needs are always so much more than what we have to give. Through donations and our volunteer hours we continue to strive to be a catalyst for change in others’ lives.

Change is always a challenge, but change can bring about an opportunity to expand our outreach even further. New beginnings in a new year. We will always search to improve the lives of others within our community while giving our members a chance to grow as volunteers and leaders.

Charity Ball 2007

We are so honored to have been a part of Charity Ball over the last two years. This was truly a community effort and there are so many people we would like to thank.

The board has been so supportive of our efforts and was always there to lend a helping hand. Many thanks to Dixie, Christina and Elisabeth for their support and thank you to Dawn and Emily for their much-needed assistance with the finances. Bethany and Katie, thank you for doing such a great job promoting Charity Ball as well. Helen, in the League office, worked tirelessly to keep all of the records of donations – we couldn’t do any of this without her! Amy and Audrey, we loved working with you two last year and are so appreciative of all the support and advice you gave us this year as well.

And what would we have done without our faithful assistant chairs?? Staci and Liza, we had so much fun working with you two. Thank you for all of your hard work and great attitudes. We know you are going to have a great year next year as well! We are so appreciative of the Charity Ball committees for all of their work in the League office, calling Sustainers and helping us decorate. We got so many compliments on how beautiful the ballroom looked! Thank you to Sustainer Martha Zoller, who did a great job as emcee of the event. Martha, your personal touch makes such a difference.

Regina Cochran was so kind to open her home to us for the Belle-Sustainer Coffee, and we would be remiss not to mention her daughters, Christina White and Julie Cochran, who were great hostesses as well. Thanks to Brooke Kalinauskas and the Hospitality committee for organizing the coffee and providing such great food.

Aspecial thank you to the staff at Chattahoochee Country Club. They really went out of their way to make it a special evening. Every detail was taken care of –

from the delicious food to the beautiful decorations.

Richard Spencer, Whitney Wiggins and Kathy Freeman – you made our job so easy! We would also like to thank Milton Martin Honda for donating the two shuttle vans and drivers. We are so blessed to have such great community partners. And of course, Charity Ball is all about the Belle candidates. What a great group of girls we had this year! It was a true joy and blessing getting to know each of them and we are so thankful for all of their hard work and dedication. We hope you all got a chance to meet Alee Boychuk, Elizabeth Collins, Molly Glazer, Stephanie Olson, Mary Kathryn Saliba and Kaniesha Stovall. They are amazing young women! We especially want to thank their sponsor clubs as well – Elks Lodge, Rotary, Evening Optimist, Civitans, Jaycees and Newtown Florist. This event is truly a community partnership. Congratulations to Rotary and their candidate, Elizabeth Collins, for being named 2007 Belle of the Ball.

It has truly been a blessing for all of us who worked on this together. Thanks to everyone for their help and for giving us the opportunity to make a difference in our community.
