THE POST COVID RECOVERY SEEMS TO BE GAINING MOMENTUM, PARTICULARLY IN AUSTRALIA. As a company, we’ve noticed increased demand in recent months from a number of industries including from the mining and construction sectors. Historically low interest rates are leading to increased activity in residential housing, while government stimulus spending and major infrastructure projects are also helping the recovery. While strengthening business conditions are extremely positive and fuelling demand for equipment, it also means that there could be some stock challenges across certain products. This situation is not only affecting the availability of access equipment but is impacting the capital equipment market more broadly. The JLG ANZ team is working hard to ensure good availability of stock, but we recommend that you speak to your JLG representatives to ensure that equipment is ordered in time to meet your required timelines. As we mentioned in the last edition of Insight, JLG is the midst of an exciting new product launch phase which will see a number of notable additions to our line-up this year. The first of these machines is a new X13J Plus Compact Crawler Boom which has just been launched (full details on pages 6-7), an additional Compact Crawler Boom model (X26J) will follow later in the year. The release of our new Rough Terrain and Electric Rough Terrain Scissor range is also not too far away. On offer will be eight models, four diesel-powered and four electric, providing working heights of between 26 and 47 feet (approx. 7.9 to 14.3 metres). All these models will run with the highly demanded and sought after 69” deck, a market JLG has not been in for a long time. Another upcoming product highlight is a new cube-style lighting tower (JLG LT3), which will be manufactured at our facility in Port Macquarie, NSW where our existing Lighting Tower and Trailer ranges are made. It’s fantastic to be able to add another locallymanufactured product to our equipment line-up. A selection of our new equipment will be on display at the JLG stand at this year’s ‘HIRE21’ Exhibition on the Gold Coast beginning on 12 May – if you’re attending, please visit our exhibit to take a closer look. Our ultimate goal is to further become your ‘go-to’ supplier for all access equipment needs, and to support the range with the best services across Australia and New Zealand through our Ground Support program. SECOND JLG SCISSOR LIFT JOINS

The Kennards Hire Museum in Artarmon, Sydney, captures much of the industry progression, especially the evolution of machines and equipment used on construction sites throughout Australia and New Zealand. A recent addition to the museum is a JLG 3246ES Electric Scissor lift. The machine first went into service with Kennards in 2010 and recently underwent a complete inhouse refurbishment by JLG, before being presented to Andy Kennard, patriarch of the family-owned business, in February. This specific 3246ES was originally ordered by long serving Kennards employee, Mark Zimmer, who retired in 2020 after 50 years’ service (and has a room named after him in the museum). STAFF PROFILE

FROM WORKSHOP TO BOARDROOM FOR NEW JLG NATIONAL ACCOUNT MANAGER AS A LONG-STANDING JLG EMPLOYEE WITH OVER 15 YEARS OF COMPANY SERVICE, DANIEL REEVE’S RISE TO HIS CURRENT ROLE AS NATIONAL ACCOUNT MANAGER HAS BEEN AN UNORTHODOX JOURNEY.

While studying Information Technology at university, Daniel came to the conclusion that IT wasn’t something he wanted to pursue as a career, and instead he turned his attention to a field that he was really interested in, mechanics. After completing an apprenticeship equivalency in the specialised field of automotive transmission mechanics and notching up a few years in the workforce, in 2006 he applied for his first position with JLG in Melbourne as a workshop technician, and was successful. With his sound mechanical background, Daniel quickly familiarised himself with all facets of JLG equipment, while also helping to build the company’s Victorian parts capabilities. Within a few short years, JLG’s Melbourne parts position had grown significantly to the point where Daniel gave up the spanners and transitioned to a full-time parts interpreter role. “By 2009 I was working within a rejuvenated parts department, the viability of which we’d significantly built up over two or three years,” Daniel said. “The position got me out of the workshop and into a customer-facing role – I found that I really enjoyed dealing with the customers and helping them with their parts and technical needs.” In 2013 a sales executive position became available at JLG, with responsibility for equipment sales into Victoria and Tasmania. Although he lacked formal sales experience, Daniel put his hand up for the role and was given the opportunity to prove himself. “I was fortunate to be working for a company like JLG who is very good to its people, open to promoting internally, recognising talent and giving you a go,” Daniel said. “They provide top level training that allows employees to evolve and further develop their careers within the company. While I didn’t have sales skills specifically, the previous roles allowed me to gain a good understanding

of customers and their broader requirements, and it prepared me well for dealing with people and their business needs, the rest I trained for.” After seven years in the Victorian and Tasmanian sales role achieving strong results, last year a new vacancy came-up with the company, the position of National Account Manager, which Daniel applied for and again was successful. The disruptions of COVID meant that he only officially began the role earlier this year, with a majority of 2021 spent still working with the VIC team, and more recently bringing his successor up-to-speed on requirements for the state sales role, while also evolving into his new position. As National Account Manager Daniel looks after JLG’s larger national accounts and has been tasked with driving new business and growth whilst also mentoring and guiding the state sales teams. Additionally, he’s working on several separate new projects. “Along with the usual sales aspects of growing share and volume, one of my challenges for the coming year is to streamline our sales processes around the country. We want best practice, iron-clad procedures in place across all markets – from Western Australia to Queensland these should be uniform,” he said. “By doing this, we set to gain a lot of efficiencies as a company and our customers will also benefit through a more streamlined customer experience. “I’m really enjoying the challenges that the new role has thrown at me thus far. Working at JLG I’m fortunate to be provided with regular opportunities and challenges – the latest continues the evolution of my career which has been quite diverse to date.” Away from work, Daniel is a keen outdoorsman, enjoying skiing and snowboarding as well as surfing and diving. He also regularly participates in four wheel driving and remote area travel around Australia, pursuits where he can combine his interests of most things mechanical and the great outdoors.

ACCESS THE RIGHT MANUALS FASTER WITH

NEW PRODUCT VARIANT CODES IDENTIFYING THE CORRECT MANUALS FOR JLG EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN MADE EASIER. ALL NEW MACHINE BUILDS FROM 2020 NOW INCLUDE FOUR DIGIT PRODUCT VARIANT CODES (PVC) ON THE SERIAL PLATE.

The first two digits of the code refer to the year in which the machine was made; the second refers to the month when product updates were introduced, so for example a machine showing a PVC of 2004 was built in 2020, and includes product updates that were applied to the machine in April. With quick four digit identification, PVC are a more efficient way to help identify manuals (operator, service and parts) for each machine, with all the latest manuals

and Online Express having been updated to align with these codes. The initiative will be particularly useful for long-standing models in the JLG range that have undergone product or operational upgrades over time, but maintained the same model number, helping the owner or service technician differentiate between older and newer variants. Equipment prior to 2020 build will continue to be identified by the Model and Serial number.

DIAGNOSTIC ANALYSER

SPECIALS ON OFFER DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERABLY INCREASE THE EFFICIENCY WITH WHICH TECHNICIANS CAN REVIEW THE PERFORMANCE OF MODERN EQUIPMENT, HELPING TO REDUCE BOTH SERVICING COSTS AND DOWNTIME.

JLG has several diagnostic tools that are used by our service technicians and branches, and these are also available for purchase, to companies that maintain their own access equipment fleets. The most traditional of the JLG diagnostic tools is the ‘Handheld Analyser’. It’s a well-proven device that most will be familiar with – it comprises a handheld module with high contrast LCD screen and connection cable, allowing the technician to program and troubleshoot all JLG machines that are equipped with Advanced Design Electronics (ADE). JLG was one of the pioneers of diagnostics technology, both developing and advancing it, particularly with the ‘JLG Mobile Analyser’. Again suitable with ADE-equipped machines, the Mobile Analyser offers a variety of language options, features Wi-Fi connectivity, and was designed to provide technicians with the convenience of remote access to program, troubleshoot, calibrate or customise operating parameters of JLG equipment. To use the JLG Mobile Analyser, technicians must first download the free JLG Mobile App to their device (tablet or mobile) through either iTunes or Google Play. The app syncs with the JLG Mobile Wireless Access

Module which can be ordered online (via Online Express on the JLG website) or through a JLG representative. The wireless module plugs into a port on the JLG machine, and the app receives and displays a detailed diagnostic read-out from up to 45 metres away. The convenience of cable-free access allows the technician to more freely move around the machine to conduct their work and even allows them to review data from a service vehicle or under cover in the case of inclement weather. A PC version of the Analyser is also available which provides an alternative option to the handheld analyser and will also function as a ‘Log Lifter’. The Log Lifter records all viewable information from the Analyser’s menus as a text file, allowing diagnostics records to be kept and for a full data download to be conveniently provided to the JLG Technical Support department if required. The operating software can be downloaded via Online Express and once installed allows the laptop to be connected to the JLG machine via the SW cable. The operating screens are similar to what’s used on the standard Handheld Analyser, providing familiarity for the user.
