WELCOME DEAR CLIENTS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS, THE YEAR IS FAST DRAWING TO A CLOSE AND I THINK FOR MOST PEOPLE 2021 CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH. While it’s true that 2020 has thrown up some huge and unexpected challenges for health services, broader business and society in general, businesses – including ours – have had to quickly adjust to new operating procedures, working from home and navigating government restrictions, while still providing customers with quality services. To our team at JLG Industries across Australia and New Zealand, I say thankyou on adapting and remaining resilient and proactive across a period of huge uncertainty. In this regard, a special mention needs to be given to our branches in Victoria and New Zealand, which endured long periods of lock-down. To our customers we also say thank-you for your support of JLG this year, and for your patience, as we pivoted to continue to meet your needs. As well as our focus on keeping the doors open and maintaining high service levels, JLG also used this year to strengthen its fundamentals, with a view to making it even more attractive than ever for existing and prospective customers to choose us as their preferred access equipment and service supplier. As you’ll read about further on in this edition, in recent months we’ve conducted an extensive audit of our spare parts department – a number of processes have now been streamlined leading to more efficient spare parts supply for customers. I’m also pleased to say that the spare parts team nationally has expanded, which will further assist the quality of our aftersales services. Together with JLG’s broad product range, fixed priced service offers, scheduled maintenance packages and the support and customising capabilities of our local manufacturing and technical hub, the company is well positioned to offer customers an efficient and hassle-free ownership experience of our equipment well into the future. Next year we also have some additional benefits in store, in the form of a considerably expanded product range line-up. We are expecting to introduce up to 15 new machines in 2021, among them new EWPs that will provide us with a complete range across all categories. Among the product highlights will be the new RT and ERT Scissor range with eight models on offer and working heights of between 26 and 47 feet (approx. 7.9 to 14.3 metres), so there’s plenty to look forward to. Once again, thank you for your support this year, and we wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable festive season. Please enjoy this edition and we’ll see you in 2021.

MORE AUSSIE MADE
PRODUCTS COMING IN THE LAST EDITION OF JLG INSIGHT, WE BROUGHT YOU A FEATURE ON THE TSL-2000 SCISSOR LIFT TRAILER, A PRODUCT THAT WAS DESIGNED, ENGINEERED, TESTED AND BUILT AT JLG’S PORT MACQUARIE, NSW, MANUFACTURING FACILITY AND TECHNOLOGY HUB.
Offering robust construction and a fit-for-task design, the trailer has proven popular with a range of customers, particularly those who frequently move scissor lifts between job sites or for whom equipment hire is their core business. The great news for JLG customers, is that plans are currently underway to add more Australian-made equipment to the JLG product line-up in the months ahead. JLG Industries Operations Manager, Jarrad Smith, said the company’s regular and consistent communication with clients was providing JLG with strong industry insights, allowing them to identify new product opportunities in the market. “As a company we have both formal and informal regular communication with a cross section of customers, and this VOC (Voice of Customer) information, is really valuable in shaping the direction

we take in terms of product development and more broadly across all our service offerings,” Jarrad said. “Some recent conversations with customers have seeded several new product ideas, the first of which is at an advanced development stage – we’re expecting to have a prototype ready by early 2021 with full production to follow in the months afterwards. “We’re confident this new equipment will deliver significant efficiency benefits for customers, particularly in the hire and rental industry and mining sectors.” With the Port Macquarie, manufacturing facility and technology hub well credentialed to undertake a wide range of research and development, in-house engineering work, strength and reliability testing, assembly and manufacturing, JLG expects to increase its workforce at the site to produce the upcoming model releases.

Jarrad said it was pleasing – and important – for JLG Industries to be able to grow its local manufacturing base.
opportunities to learn and ultimately gain employment in a sector of the workforce in which it can be difficult to gain a foothold.”
“Over the 18 years that we’ve been manufacturing in Port Macquarie, we’ve provided ten apprenticeships and we currently have a range of trades working at the site including boilermakers, fitters and electricians,” he said.
According to Jarrad, JLG customers are supportive of Australian-made products, recognising the benefits from both a product perspective, but also more broadly.
“We also offer work experience to local schools – there’s pretty much always a student with us all the time and JLG is one of few in the local community who can offer younger people insight into the manufacturing sector, for which the schools and students are extremely appreciative. “As a company we think it’s extremely important to guide the next generation and provide them with
“Having a local manufacturing presence we can design and build equipment that meets the exacting requirements of Australian applications and working conditions, and there’s also a range of options available to our clients that we can customise,” he said. “Our customers also appreciate that we consult with them and can respond quickly to their needs, and for most, the knowledge that they are also supporting local manufacturing and Australian jobs is satisfying.”

SPARE PARTS
JLG PARTS DEPARTMENT
STRENGTHENED JLG EQUIPMENT OWNERS ARE RECEIVING THEIR PARTS FASTER AND AT LOWER OVERALL COST, THANKS TO RECENT ENHANCEMENTS AT THE COMPANY’S PARTS DISTRIBUTION CENTRE AND REGIONAL SERVICE CENTRES ACROSS AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. THE BENEFITS COME AS A RESULT OF NEW SUPPLY CHAIN DISTRIBUTION PROCESSES AND ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCED STAFF MEMBERS.

INSIGHT
A detailed review and audit undertaken earlier this year identified a number of opportunities to better allocate parts holdings, enabling more streamlined deliveries. The review also gave the parts team a better understanding of which parts were most in demand in each region, allowing JLG to cater more specifically to the demand. JLG Industries’ Supply Chain Manager, Rebecca White, said the new processes were already delivering benefits for customers, even during the challenging COVID 19 period where distribution channels where affected. “One of the changes we implemented has allowed us to better allocate our stock holdings around Australia and New Zealand,” Rebecca said.
SPARE PARTS
“We’re now monitoring order origins and are building an accurate geographic picture of parts demand, which allows us to better stock parts in the areas that they’re most in demand.” Closer analysis of historical parts data is also helping the JLG parts team re-categorise both its fast-moving and long-term parts stock, which will result in increased availability of fast-moving parts for customers to minimise equipment downtime.
Rebecca said the new team members’ considerable experience had allowed them to smoothly integrate into the broader JLG team and quickly make an impact. “We’ve recruited well and have been fortunate enough to attract some quality new additions, all of whom also share our customer-centric company philosophy.”
JLG customers will also be pleased to learn that the company has introduced new policies and processes with regards to backorders and despatch, which along with the inventory focus, will result in faster parts access for customers and ultimately lower freight costs.
NEW JLG PARTS TEAM MEMBERS Aiding the new parts management processes is an expanded team which has seen five parts professionals join the existing JLG parts department since June this year. The breakdown of the new appointments includes three parts interpreters and two inventory/purchasing officers, all of whom have extensive experience in similar roles for other capital equipment customers.

SERVICE
JLG NEW ZEALAND -
SERVICE COVERAGE FROM NORTH TO SOUTH HAVING A BROAD RANGE OF TOUGH, RELIABLE AND TECHNOLOGICALLY-ADVANCED EQUIPMENT TO SUIT THE APPLICATION, IS JUST ONE COMPONENT OF BEING ABLE TO PROPERLY SUPPORT CLIENTS – JUST AS IMPORTANT THOUGH, IS THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE A HIGH LEVEL OF AFTER SALE SERVICE AND SUPPORT.
As a leading distributor of Elevated Work Platforms (EWPs) including boom lifts, scissor lifts, vertical lifts, compact crawler booms and low level access, JLG New Zealand recognises that supporting its machines is also a priority. While the JLG branch is based in Mt Wellington, Auckland, where it provides new machine sales, spare parts stock and houses its main workshop, the company has technicians located in major centres throughout the North and South islands, offering coverage to most regions at short notice. The company’s breadth of service and maintenance coverage is facilitated by four Auckland-based technicians, a technician in Wellington, two in Christchurch and one in Central Otago to service the lower half of the South Island.

JLG New Zealand Branch Manager, Brian Lund, said that the company’s ability to mobilise technicians to all parts of the country gave JLG equipment customers added peace of mind. “For most of our customers there’s much greater convenience in having their equipment serviced on the job site or at their local depot because there’s less interruption to workflow,” Brian said. “Similarly, we understand that an unforeseen issue could result in downtime and in a worst case scenario, bring a job to a grinding halt, and this costs money, so it’s reassuring for customers to know that we can dispatch a local technician at short notice to rectify any issues.”
TECH SERVICES
NOW WITHIN EASIER REACH JLG INDUSTRIES IS INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY TO ITS INNOVATIVE CLEARSKY TELEMATICS SOLUTION, BY OFFERING THE TECHNOLOGY AS STANDARD FITMENT ON ALL NEW ENGINEPOWERED BOOM LIFTS SINCE JULY 2020. As part of the initiative, new JLG engine-powered boom lift orders also receive a complementary three year data subscription plan, which allows them to access the JLG ClearSky Portal or API that enables them to closely monitor machine parameters and track the equipment, along with other functionality. Since JLG ClearSky was introduced in Australia approximately three years ago, uptake of the technology has been steadily increasing, according to JLG Technical Services Manager, Luke Schubert. “More and more access equipment users are realising the benefits that technologies such as ClearSky can deliver for their businesses,” Luke said. “In having the technology as a standard offering on selected equipment, we’re providing JLG owners with added value by making machine ownership more efficient and easier to manage.”
BENEFITS OF CLEARSKY The efficiencies that ClearSky provides can be broadly placed into three categories: increasing uptime/utilisation, enhancing safety/security and boosting productivity and performance. The technology allows the owner or operator to know when, where and how the equipment is being used. It also provides the owner with automated performance reports and can send immediate notification if a problem with the machine arises. Furthermore, ClearSky will also proactively schedule maintenance to reduce unnecessary service calls. To improve safety and security, ClearSky allows the user to set-up geofences and time fences to protect the equipment from unauthorised operation, and also saves time by immediately locating assets in the field.
According to Luke, at its most functional, the ClearSky telematics data which can be securely shared between the machine owner and JLG, also allows technicians to more efficiently service and maintain the equipment. “Being able to rapidly respond to an unexpected issue and resolve it as quickly as possible to reduce machine downtime is a key priority for JLG and our clients,” he said “You receive a maintenance or breakdown notification and in many cases can diagnose the issue without being on site. You can then despatch the closest mobile technician and ensure they have the appropriate parts on board to rectify the problem. “En route to the machine, the technician will already have a good idea of the issue and what will be required to sort it out. The more efficiently you can action the repairs, the lower the costs and ClearSky can really help in this regard.”
ACCESS CONTROL For additional functionality, JLG also offers the intelligent ‘Access Control’ for its ClearSky telematics for an extra cost. By providing operators with a unique ‘smart card’, Access Control can restrict users who may not have the correct credentials or training, from using a machine, thereby increasing work site safety. It can also provide check in/check out tracking and reporting to aid decision making based on usage and operator performance.

FINANCE
THE FINLEASE
SOLUTION
EQUIPMENT IS THE LIFEBLOOD OF BUSINESS, YET FINANCE CAN BE A MAJOR OBSTACLE TO GROWTH. THAT’S WHERE FINLEASE CAN HELP.
Finlease is a specialist business finance broker established more than 30 years ago. Visiting Sydney’s industrial areas, founder Mark O’Donoghue offered companies betterthan-bank financing and genuine personal service. Today, Finlease has a team of 70 across Australia and provides more than $500 million of equipment financing annually; all still with that trademark personal touch. Many of Finlease’s earliest clients remain with the company, which has more than 1000 reviews on feedback sites like Product Review and TruLocal, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5. Finlease sources finance from a wide range of competitive institutions, including the big banks, enabling it to spread loans across a number of lenders. This ensures customers aren’t tied to just one, avoiding having to pay-out all loans and incur penalty fees should the borrower wish to change lenders. Also, if a business owner’s residential property is cross-securing equipment loans, it limits the opportunities to finance non-equipment debt. “We’re heavily involved in the national hire and rental industry, and have worked with JLG for many a year,” said Miles Beamish, Finlease’s Partner Equipment Finance for Victoria. “Being on the ground in Australia and New Zealand gives us a local perspective, insights and negotiating power. “We’re very happy to be strengthening our relationship with JLG as a means of better meeting its customers’ needs, both for direct sales and through its resellers. Despite the effect of the COVID-19 lockdown, particularly in Victoria, the construction business is bouncing back and that’s good news for access equipment sales and rentals. Given the amount of infrastructure work already underway, and being announced, we see things as pretty rosy for the construction and accessequipment industries.

INSIGHT
“The Federal Government’s Coronavirus Small and Medium (SME) Guarantee Scheme, which guarantees up to 50% of any losses on new loans, is an excellent incentive. There’s no doubt the major banks and other institutions are wanting to lend to the SME market right now which, coupled with record low interest rates, is a great thing. Importantly, these rates are fixed for the term of loan. “Things get even better for SME business (turnover up to $50 million) with the ATO’s original Instant Asset WriteOff of up to $150,000 on new and used equipment now unlimited in the amount that can be claimed (businesses turning over $50-$500 million receive same concessions for new equipment only after December 31st this tear). “Add to all that the Temporary Loss Carry Back Tax Opportunities for companies turning-over less than $5 billion and there really never has been a better time to invest in new or used access equipment,” Miles explained. “Recently, a client told me the finance rate on his latest equipment purchase is lower than his home mortgage. I thought he was joking, but when I checked it turned out to be true. “There has never been a better time to invest in JLG access equipment. Talk to us today to find out how Finlease can help make it happen. We are available on mobile, work the same hours you do and meet you onsite, where and when it suits”.
COMMUNITY
IT SURE IS ‘GOOD TO GIVE BACK’
HELD RECENTLY FROM OCTOBER 5 TO 9, THE ‘GOOD TO GIVE BACK’ INITIATIVE IS NOW IN ITS FOURTH YEAR, AND IS A JOINT GLOBAL CHARITABLE EFFORT BETWEEN JLG INDUSTRIES AND SISTER BRAND, JERR-DAN – THIS YEAR’S PROGRAM FOCUSED ON POVERTY REDUCTION AND SUPPORTING THE ELDERLY. Locally, JLG conducted activities within the communities in which its branches operate throughout Australia and New Zealand, as a means of giving back to people in those areas. The events were quite varied and targeted towards charities with the greatest needs within each region. In Sydney, JLG partnered with street outreach service, the Shining Stars Foundation, providing food and hygiene products. In Port Macquarie, the partner charity was the Port Anglican Soup Kitchen which again received food, in particular, meat for their weekly lunch services, which can be expensive for the organisation to regularly purchase. Further north in Queensland, JLG teamed-up with the Brisbane Motorcycle Street Feed – it’s a group that travels around the Brisbane area on motorcycles setting up ‘feeds’ for the homeless. For this charity, JLG donated water, food and hygiene products. The Salvation Army was the recipient of sleeping bags and non-perishables in Western Australia, while in South Australia and Victoria, JLG made donations to OzHarvest to assist this charity’s work in providing support to those experiencing food insecurity. And finally in New Zealand, JLG contributed to De Paul House, a family support and emergency housing service provider in Auckland, donating linen, blankets and food products. Along with corporate support, JLG staff were encouraged to donate goods if they had the capacity to do so. According to JLG HR Manager, Gemma Chapman,
who assisted organising the event, given this year’s challenging circumstance, the JLG team definitely proved to have big hearts. “This year was extremely difficult due to the impacts of COVID, resulting in more people requiring support in the community, and less support available. Regardless of the challenges faced by our own team members throughout a challenging year, they came out in force to support Good to Give Back,” Gemma said. “We’re fortunate to have a great bunch of people working at JLG. The company has a strong history of good corporate citizenship and this philosophy is clearly seen in our staff.” As an additional way to give back, JLG also encouraged broader family involvement, which saw a number of children write letters and provide them for distribution to Hammond Care, a charity that supports the elderly via health and aged care services. With COVID restrictions in place, many older community members experienced social isolation and loneliness, so the letters from JLG families provided many with a much needed morale boost. With the amount of organising and collaboration involved in the Good to Give Back initiative, planning will shortly begin for next year’s activities where it can be guaranteed that JLG staff will again show their strong sense of community and social responsibility.
