Dear Child Surivors, We are back and we trust this edition of Connections finds you well. There is so much in the news that we would all like to switch off; the article on the bike ride to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Kindertransport is one that will
gladden your heart. We are fortunate to have the support and friendship of Amy Williams in Britain. Amy is writing her PhD thesis on the Kindertransport and has shared her thoughts on the bike ride with us. Amy writes: The bike ride to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Kindertransport was so moving. World Jewish Relief filmed parts of it and posted it on social media. Everyone did so well, they raised thousands of pounds for the charity too. Some of the survivors joined the cyclists at the end. I think quite a few second generation went, their posts on social

media were so emotional. One person talked about how their parent had left Germany and then how they felt on the boat from Holland to Harwich. I think this re-enactment of the Kinder’s journeys was really interesting for several reasons: Amy Williams
1. It keeps memory alive. 2. It raised funds for World Jewish Relief who were the Central British Fund in the 30s who helped the Kinder. 3. Different generations came together to remember. 4. Stories were told. 5. Acknowledges refugees today creating empathy from memories of the past. 6. The bike ride is interesting because this time they are journeying to remember, they are not escaping but reconnecting with a past. Viv Parry, Chairperson, CSH
Forum and Film Launch: The Transfer of Intergenerational Trauma Keynote speaker: Dr Paul Valent, psychiatrist, traumatologist, author and child survivor. Panellists will include: Bernadette Gore (CSH), Bernard Korbman OAM (past Executive Director of the JHC), Jordana Silverstein (third generation, author and educator) and Viv Parry (MC). Screenplay writer/film director Justin Olstein will launch his latest short film The Visitor, a masterful interpretation of the effects of intergenerational trauma. Bookings open from 1 August.
