The Art of Quilling

Quilling is the art of rolling, coiling, and shaping small strips of paper to create a cohesive three-dimensional design. Historians have dated the art form back to ancient times, when crafters would use a bird’s feather (quill) as the tool to coil the paper upon. Quilling most notably made its mark throughout the Western world. During the Renaissance, nuns and monks would trim gold-gilded paper from books and quill the pieces into decorative designs to adorn religious objects. This practice was used in place of working with costly gold filigree. In later years, quilling grew to be a leisurely pastime of affluent women throughout Europe. Women practiced quilling to embellish household décor such as picture frames, baskets, and jewelry boxes. Quilling eventually found its way to America through the pilgrims. Today, Quilling Card is the premier source of preserving and sharing this beautiful art form, striving to keep it alive and flourishing.

Quilling Card is incredibly fortunate to train and employ almost 1000 quillers who handcraft each of our designs in one of our six Vietnam factories. In 2015, Quilling Card was honored to become a Verified Member of the Fair Trade Federation (FTF). The FTF focuses on maintaining a code of values for proper treatment of employees and encourages ethically responsible business practices all over the world.

Many of the artists which Quilling Card employs come from the surrounding rural areas of central and south Vietnam. Most have had only limited access to education making it difficult to find employment that offers sustainable wages and essential benefits. At Quilling Card we offer training to learn the art of quilling, employment advancement opportunities, full benefits, and wages that are 20%25% above the national average. This gives men and women the chance to adequately provide for themselves and their families while building a career — an opportunity that can be hard to come by.

The transparency of our business practices and our membership with the FTF reassures our consumers they are buying a product that is free from any negative stigmas commonly associated with items that are handmade overseas. The cumulative passion we all have for this lost art is truly the driving force behind Quilling Card.

Opening orders must be prepaid. All major credit cards accepted. Net 30 available upon request and submission of credit references.

Backorder Policy

Backorders not permitted. All available items will be shipped, and the balance will be canceled.

Shipping

All orders are shipped from our warehouse in Holliston, MA 01746. Preferred carrier is FedEx. UPS available upon request and receipt of account number. Delivery to Alaska and Hawaii will be shipped via USPS. Display units are shipped direct from our supplier in Wisconsin.

Returns

Claims for returns must be submitted within 7 days of receipt. Customer is responsible for shipping charges unless otherwise specified. Please return items in the same condition as they were received (i.e. no retail price stickers).

Ecommerce Policy

Quilling Card products may not be resold on eBay, Etsy, Amazon, or other online marketplaces. The minimum retail price per card must be no less than $11.00.
