1850
The Gibson family, settled in the USA from York, England and started their family printing business in America eventually launching two printing companies: one propelled by the Civil War in 1860 and the other by purchase in 1870. The latter company called the John Gibson Company, which became today’s C.R.Gibson®
1900
After prospering separately for over thirty years, the John Gibson Company and the Gibson Art Company merged into one, forming C.R. Gibson® & Company under the leadership of John Gibson’s nephew, Charles Gibson. A young innovator and apprentice to the family business, Charles had previously developed wedding and baby books. These fresh formats transferred to the new company, increasing C.R. Gibson’s ® presence in the industry and firmly established it as an industry leader.
1920
Throughout the early 20th century, C.R. Gibson & Company grew into an extended family of sorts. C.R. Gibson® continues to build on the core values that have successfully guided the company over the years.
1940
With rough waters behind them, the company had outgrown its New York dwelling so C.R. Gibson®, comprised of thirty employees, relocated to larger facilities and a more measured pace of life in Norwalk, Connecticut.
1960
Continuing to innovate and increase its range of products, C.R. Gibson® began a strategic growth strategy by acquisition, starting in 1963 with the purchase of photo album manufacturer, W.C. Horn Brothers & Company. This pivotal maneuver allowed C.R. Gibson® to successfully enter the gift book and photograph album market with two revolutionary products.
1979
With the purchase of the Creative Papers Stationery Company C.R.Gibson® added new dimension to the company in fine stationery and boxed card categories.
2007
C.R. Gibson® itself was acquired by CSS Industries, Inc. Since that transition, another brand caught C.R. Gibson’s eye: the company acquired Basalt, Colorado-based Iota Stationery and Gifting Essentials in May 2008 adding to their niches trend-forward design that has inspired a future of stationery, gift, and licensed products.
2020
The C.R. Gibson® brand as a part of CSS Industries was acquired by DG Americas and continued to grow the CELEBRATION! Gift category.
2025 - PRESENT
C.R. Gibson® is acquired by Creative Brands, a subsidiary under CBC Group. We are excited to continue to grow and build this unique stationery and gift brand, drawing on the strengths of previous success and new visions.
