ARETE
31 October 2025
As summer has faded into fall, the Arete team has already seen meaningful growth and change take shape.
Fall is often seen as a season of fresh starts and at Liberty, it signals the beginning of a new semester Now, nearly three months in, our team has already experienced tremendous momentum and growth From remarkable events and major project milestones to well-deserved honors earned by several team members, this season has been full of inspiring achievements
Just like this past summer, each student has walked a unique path this semester but together, they’ve all contributed to Arete’s growth and, most importantly, to the glorification of God This semester has been emotionally heavy, marked by the passing of Charlie Kirk and other national tragedies It has also brought significant academic challenges Yet through it all, with the Lord’s guidance, our team has remained steadfast Their resilience, commitment to excellence, and daily hard work are nothing short of inspiring
I hope you enjoy this month’s edition of our newsletter!

9/11
NEVER FORGET PROJECT YOUNG AMERICANS FOR FREEDOM
Each year, Liberty University’s Young Americans for Freedom Chapter honors the lives lost in the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. Students across campus spent time placing 2,977 flags to honor each life that was tragically taken Furthermore, YAF hosted Helms School of Government Professor Scott Roenicke, who shared his personal account of 9/11 Professor Roenicke was working in the Pentagon on 9/11, so his story was very powerful These events were heavy, but important for our generation to attend in order to effectively never forget this tragedy

“In September, our board coordinated the YAF 9/11 Never Forget project At this event, we invite students to join us as we place an American flag on the lawn for every life lost on September 11 , 2001 This project provides a powerful visual to both the students and staff on campus and serves as a reminder of the tragic attack that occurred on American soil 24 years ago We also had the privilege of hosting Liberty's own Professor Roenicke on the 24 Anniversary of 9/11. He gave his firsthand account of 9/11 when he worked in the Pentagon His story was a convicting narrative of the fallen nature of man, and the grace and forgiveness we as believers should reflect, as we are shown grace and forgiveness every day ”Madison Kelly, YAF President and Helms School of Government 327 TA th th

The MAHA Market at Liberty University, hosted through Turning Point and the Freedom Center, was very successful This event included local vendors, health and policy speakers, and interactive activities such as tote-bag painting and gardening Students learned about health initiatives from Virginia leadership, health advocacy organizations, and health influencers. “After working on this since May, it was such a blessing to see the event come together even better than I imagined,” Josie Huyard (President of Freedom Center Society, Arete TA) said, “I hope to continue building on this success and make the MAHA Market an annual tradition ”

Madelyn East (Middle), Arete Scheduler
“Hundreds of students attended the MAHA Market, hosted by the Freedom Center Society and Turning Point USA’s Liberty chapter The event aimed to educate students on the MAHA movement by featuring credible speakers, influencers, and local vendors who promoted healthier and more intentional living. The atmosphere was energetic and inspiring, encouraging students to pursue wellness in their physical, mental, and spiritual lives ”

“Constitutional Originalism: History, Higher Law, and Praxis” Conference
On September 17 , Liberty University’s Helm School of Government and School of Law organized a “Constitution Day” in order to celebrate 250 years of America. This event was also used to honor the recently assassinated Charlie Kirk, who was a devout patriot and advocate for freedom Throughout the day, different professors and speakers gave lectures on the Constitution. The day concluded with a live reading of the Constitution in its entirety, with select students and professors reading different sections th,

FREEDOM UNCENSORED
This two-day conference held by the Freedom Center served not only as an educational time to hear from incredible speakers, including

“Freedom Uncensored was an incredible success, bringing students together to engage with culture and politics through a Christian worldview I had the privilege of helping host Jennifer Sey, CEO of XX XY Athletics, while also assisting with meet and greets, leading volunteers, and networking with national leaders in the green room The event created meaningful conversations about faith, truth, and leadership in today’s culture I also had the honor of speaking at the Gala about my experience as President of the Freedom Center Society and how the Freedom Center brings Liberty’s mission of training Champions for Christ to life by equipping students to think critically, lead with conviction, and stand boldly for truth in every area of influence ” - Josie Huyard

Arete Spotlights
The team has been representing Arete well this fall. Arete is the greek word for excellence, and this team has reflected just that. While they accomplish excellence every day, here are some notable highlights from the semester so far!

“This semester, I ve had the privilege of serving as a Resident Shepherd on East Campus! I've gotten to spend my weeks meeting with girls, leading community group leaders, learning through RS classes, and caring for girls emotionally and spiritually It has been a blessing to invest in the lives of the girls in my building and to be a part of forming a community for the glory of God I have also recently stepped into the role of Director of Clubs for the Student Government Association It is a joy to serve the clubs at Liberty in this way. Both of these roles have been highlights of my semester and have been amazing ways to use my gifts for the good of others and the glory of the Lord ”

On October 31 , Liberty University’s Young Americans for Freedom hosted YAF speaker Daniel Di Martino Daniel Di Martino is a big voice within the conservative movement He experienced firsthand the devastating effects of socialism and economic collapse before moving to the United States He is now an advocate for free markets, individual liberty, and strengthened immigration policies Four Arete members also serve on the YAF board, and put lots of time and dedication into making this event as well as the chapter so successful!

Kate Jorquez, Helms School of Government 200 TA, has had a busy semester! Kate is an active member of Liberty University’s Debate Team and has participated in several tournaments Some notable competitions have been winning the Junior Varsity division at the George Mason Tournament and making it to octofinals at the 55th Annual JW Patterson Debates hosted by University of Kentucky Lexington Kate has done an excellent job at representing Arete, and we can not wait to see what else she achieves!
The Goodlatte Project
Working on the Goodlatte
Project is a great experience for our archivers! While working with the project, we are able to learn the different ways Congress works and how many areas of our life are affected by the decisions they make.

Congressman Goodlatte was heavily involved during his twenty-six years serving Virginia’s sixth congressional district. He represented them in various ways, including in his position as the Chair of the House Judiciary Committee. Being able to review and archive this information gives us the opportunity to increase scholarship and build various writing, communication, and researching skills, and learn about the jurisdiction of Congress and its members.

MORE UPDATES TO COME IN FUTURE

Through the success of events, classes, and competitions, the fruits of Arete’s hard work have been evident Only a few months remain this semester, and the team’s goal is to finish strong In order to achieve this, we must remember that our own strength is not sufficient It is imperative to lean on the Lord in all things, whether it be emotionally, physically, spiritually, or academically
A verse that I like to meditate on so as to not get “burnt out” when life gets overwhelming is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Anything is possible with God. I hope this can be encouraging to you all!
