Thanks to community response, WIesel event moved to Red Lion By Barbara Chandler, Federation Public Relations Director Due to the overwhelming response of the Omaha Jewish community to the 1994 UJA/Federation Campaign, the community event on Jan. 20, featuring guest speaker Elie Wiesel, will be held at the Red Lion Hotel. Tickets to the event were made available to anyone in the Omaha Jewish community who made a pledge to the 1994 Campaign by Dec. 31. The event was scheduled to be held at Beth El Synagogue, which seats 950 people, but the number of pledges and requests for tickets has exceeded that number, and the campaign chairmen felt it was necessary to hold the event in a location that would allow everyone who made their pledge by the Dec. 31 deadline the opportunity to hear Professor Wiesel speak in person. Validated parking for the event will be available courtesy of First National Bank and the Red Lion Hotel. Approximately 600 parking spaces will be available for validation in the Red Lion's 17th Street Parking garage, which is directly west of the hotel, across 17th Street. Guests may park In stalls marked "reserved" in that garage. There is an underground tunnel between the 17th Street parking garage and the Red Lion. The garage directly connected to the Red Lion Hotel on the east is owned by First National Hnnk. They have arranged for validation of approximately 250 spaces in that garage, "It's really wonderdil that we were forced, by the success of the campaign, to move to larger quarters for the event," commented Howard Koopcr, r;«nnrnl Campaign Chairman. Harley Schrager, General Campaign Clmirnmn,
added, "We are gratified by the overwhelming] response to not only the event itself, but the timeliness of people making their 1994 Campaign pledges. It demonstrates to us, as chairmen of the campaign, that Jews in Omaha are generous andthat they enjoy coming together to celebrate the! greatness of this community." "I am personally thrilled by the response to having Elie Wiesel speak in this community. More than 1,200 people want to hear him," remarked Carol Katzman, Women's Division Chairman." And I am grateful to all the campaign volunteers and donors who worked toward our goal of getting all pledges in by Dec. 31 and helped make this event such a great success. I know it will be a memorable evening."
