Dan Gordman eulogized as 'mensh' who stressed Jewish education By Morris Maline An estimated 400 mourners participated in services for Dan Giordman, retailer and philanthropist, Dec. 24 at Beth Israel Synagogue. Mr. Gordman, who built the chain of Richman Gordman Inc. department stores and 1/2 Price Stores, died Dec. 22 of pneumonia at Methodist Hospital. He was 81. Burial took place at Beth Israel Cemetery. Rabbi Joseph Friedman, spiritual leader of Beth Israel Synagogue, defmed mensh as an upright, honorable, decent person who comes close to fulfilling God's purpose for human beings. Rabbi Friedman noted that Mr. Gordman would live on for generations through the examples he had set for his family and for his dream of building an educational center on the Jewish Federation campus. Mr. Gordman was an active member of the Omaha Jewish community for many years and was especially interested in the Jewish education of the children of the community. Super Sunday announces steering committee By Barbara Chandler, Federation public relations director M'Lee and Larry Hasslinger, Super Sunday chairmen fpr the 1994 UJA/Federation Campaign, announced the members of their steering committee. They are Kim and Marc Kahn, Todd and Wendy Manvitz, Doug and Sarah Wolfson, and teen volunteers Andrea Collis and Bobby Shapiro. Mrs. Hasslinger noted that all the adult volunteers have small children. "We all want to teach our,children about tzedakah and about being involved. "We want them to understand that whether it is an hour of bur time working as a volunteer or pledging a dollar a week to the Campaign, every contribution is valuable to our Jewish community."

During the next few weeks, the steering committee will be recruiting volunteers to make calls on Super Sunday, Feb. 6, and planning hospitality for the callers. Dave Blackwell is Master of Ceremonies, according to Barry Siff, chairman. .^ • "This year's banquet will certainly have an extra added dimension following the New Year's Day match-up of Florida State and the Nebraska Comhuskers," said Mr. Siff. Historically, the event has attracted over 1,400 and a particularly strong interest level is expected this year. The event is the 40th Annual Sports Banquet sponsored by Henry Monsky Lodge of B'nai B'rith. Each year, the Lodge honors male and female athletes of the year with the Bert Render Award for boys and the Earl Siegel Award for girls. Mr. Blackwell, sports director at KISN Radio in Salt Lake City, is a former Omaha sportscaster for KMTV. He also is a former Nebraska Cornhusktr football analyst for KI*'AB radio. Coach Bowden first arrived in Tnllalm^n .ir 1976. His Florida State record is a remarkable 165 46-3. He has built the Seminole football team into i\ national power by scheduling and playing some of the nation's toughest college teams.
