Chairmen urge pledges be made by Dec. 31 By Barbara Chandler, Federation public relations director

Jewish help boosts holiday for children Approximately 60 visually-impaired children attended the 32nd annual Ruth Sokolof Christmas party, sponsored by the Nebraska Foundation for the Visually Impaired Sunday at Westroads. The Phil and Ruth Sokolof Charitable Foundation donated $100 t9 each youngster for the purchase of presents. In top photo, Mr. Sokolof with his grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark Javitch at left and his daughter, Karen Javitch help two of the children wrap presents. According to Howard Kooper and Harley Schrager, 1994 UJA/Federation General Campaign Chairmen and Carol Katzman, Women's Division Chairman, the 1994 UJA/Federation Campaign is well underway and pledges are arriving at the Federation office every day, "We want to extend our sincere thanks to those of you who have already made your pledges. "Once again, you have shown that Omaha is the best of Jewish communities," said Mrs. Katzman. Mr, Kooper explained that as pledges are received at the Federation, donors are being sent letters of thanks and postcards . The cards are to be returned indicating if tickets are desired for the Community Event on Jan. 20 featuring guest speaker Elie Wiesel, Those who have made pledges and have not received a blue postcard to reserve their ticket should contact the Federation office at 334-8200, ext. 210 or 247. Tickets will not be mailed until January. Pledges may be paid anytime during 1994. Mr. Schrager urged those who have not made their pledges to do so during the next week. "If you have not yet made your pledge, we want to remind you that Dec. 31 is the deadline in order to receive a reserved ticket to hear Elie Wiesel. Open to the community "The event is open to the entire Jewish community, but for those without tickets, sealing will be on a space available basis. "We urge you to make your pledge before Dec. 31 and join us for this very special evening. "If you have not yet been contacted about your pledge by a campaign volunteer, please let us know by calling the Federation office."
