Platts chair Israel Mission By Barbara Chandler, Federation public relations directpr. , Barbara and Mike Platt are taking their first trip t6 Israel as chairmen of Gesher 1993, the Omaha . Spring Mission scheduled for May 2-12. " "We've been wanting to go to Israel for several years," explained Mrs. Platt, "and now the time' is right." "One of the special things about going on an Omaha mission is having close friends with you to share the experience," Mr. Platt added. "We encourage anyone who has been thinking — or dreaming -— about going to Israel to join-us." A mission is different from a trip, explained Anne Broder, Midwest Region UJA Missions chairman. Mission participants meet with military, government and business leaders. They visit with Ethiopian Jews in their caravans, and teenagers in Youth Aliyah villages. They tour the Golan Heights guided ^y young Israelis who have lived there under constant Syrian threat. Mrs. Broder.noted that

with more than 60 Omahans and every one of them has come back energized and touched by the experiences they share with fellow Jews, both Omahans and Israelis." 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mike and Barbara Platt. Cost for Gesher 1993 will be $1,395 per person, which includes round-trip air fare between Oihaha and Tel Aviv, hotels (double occupancy), taxes, transfers, guides, porterage, programs and most meals. Cost will be $1,695 for second-time participants (those who haye been on a Federation sponsored mission within the last five years). The mission will be subsidized by UJA and the Jewish Federation of Omaha, and each participant must make an individual minimum contribuUon of $1,000 to the 1994 UJA/Federation Campaign. Space on this mission is limited, and applications, accompanied by a $500 deposit per person, must be received by March 22, 1993. Special arrangements can be made for stopovers and extensions at an additional charge. Scholar at B'nai Israel on Feb. 19 Rabbi Jeffrey Schein, professor of Jewish Education at the Cleveland College of Jewish Studies, will conduct services and speak on Reconstructionist-related topics at a scholar-in-residence weekend at B'nai Israel Synagogue Feb. 19 to 21. On Feb. 20, Rabbi Schein will di.vcuss "Conveying Jewish Values in Everyday Life* at a dairy-vegetarian potluck dinner and Havdalah lervice at 5 p.m. at the home of Rebecca and Brent Bloom, 10116 N. 30th Avenue.
