Lion of Judah^ mission planned

Midwest Region chair Anne Broder has announced -the Lion of Judah Pall Mission to Israel. The UJA National Women's Division will celebrate the Lion of Judah's 20th anniversary on a mission ix> Turkey and Israel, Oct. 22 - Nov. 2. The'miasion also commemorates the 25th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem and 500 years of Jewish presence in Turkey. Speqial programming for participants who commit a minimum $5,000 gift to the 1993 Federation Campaign will honor all Lions of Judah and the Miami Women's Division, creator of the Lion symbol. In Turkey, the mission will study Sephardic cultural history, follow in the footsteps of Dona Gracia Mendes Nasi, protector of Jews fleeing the Inquisition, and explore ancient sites. Also planned is a private recep- . tion with Turkey's president and meetings with leaders of the Jewish community. In Israel, mission members will continue their Sephardic studies, meet new ohm from the CIS and Ethiopia, cruise with the Israeli Navy and participate in ceremonies marking 25 years of a reunified Jerusalem. The mission will be le;! by National Women's Division Chairman Yona Goldberg of Washington. DC with Barbara Platt of Palm Springs as National Mission chair.
