Mary Fellman attends funeral in Israel Editor's Note: Mary Fellman, who learned of Rabbi Isaac Nadoffs death while in Israel, telephoned the Jewiab Ptesa Monday with her personal acoiunt of the funeral. Her story is as foUows: JERUSALEM-The sad news of the sudden death of Rabbi Isaac Nadoff reached me in Jerusalem about as soon as many in Omaha had heard. A telephone call from Je{m Duitch to her children in Jerusalem that morning and via them to me stunned me and I immediately sought his daughter Julie's phone number to obtain details of the funeral. In my wildest dreams, it never would have occurred to me that I would become the only member of the Oihaha Jewish community to have the privilege of paying honor to this man With whom I have worked so closely, a man whom 1 have admired and considered a close friend for so many years. On Friday at 3;45 p.m., accompanied by nty nephew. Dr. Joel Allen, I stood on the fomer of, Bar Alon street in front of the Chevra Kadisha building and waited for the hearse to arrive from Ben-G\urion airport. Rabbi Nadoff's niece invited me into a car where Rabbi Nadoff's sister was sitting, giving me precious minutes to tell both of them what it meant to have this man of such great style and wisdom aa a member of our Jewish community, and how much love there was for him.
A few minutes later, his daughter, Julie (Yehudet Amrani) was driven up with members of her family. We also shared tears. From that moment on I served as a witness to the final tribute to Rabbi Isaac Nadoff. Immediately upon arrival of the hearse, there was a transfer to th$ talliscovered body from the casItet to a stretcher and then to a small blue hearse in which there were members of the Chevra Kadisha. Followed by private cars filled with relatives and members of the Yemenite community, the procession passed the Hyatt Regency Hotel and drove into the hills into an Arab section over rocky, rough stone roads to the top.of the Mount of Olives cemetery. Quickly the body was taken by stretcher and surrounded by 20 or more black'hatted and bearded men who moved in unison with a soft shuffle around the body chanting the words of the Song of Songs. At the grave, words of honor were spoken in Hebrew by Rabbi Nadoff's brother-in-law, who told about this man of strength and wisdom. Rabbi Nadoff was eulogized aa a man who believed in following the straight path who had served so well as a rabbi in Omaha. ' I said my o,wn silent words of eulogy and Kaddiah aa I remembered sit(Continued on Page 10)
