In return for the good will shown to them, Mr. and Mrs. Baer named The Foundation of the OiuJia Jewish Federation as recipient of a cash gift resulting from the sale of their hocaa last spring. eled first to Italy and later to Shanghai, China where both became teachers of music to wealthy Chinese families. The fear of oppression and persecution in Germany was later replaced by the threat of communism in China — forcing the Baers to again search for a free land that they could call home. It was at this point, in I960, that they traveled to San Francisco. The beginning of their stay in the U.S. was not without problems.
