il I L A U By Leslie V/olftoa Federation etaff associate Women's Division Campaign chairman Mnrcia Cohen announces two community events in March. The first, on March 20, will be a Business and Professional Dinner at Highland Country CJuh, held in the evening for those professional women who work during the day. The other event, a community luncheon at Peony Park, will be on March 29. Chairmen for the Community Event are Nancy Hornstcin and Connie Kully, who have decided on an Israeli picnic theme. Coordinating the Business and Professional dinner will be Robyn Glick and Denny Gteenberg. As this year's theme is Share the Vision, Give to Life, both events are centered around that theme. The guest speaker for both the dinner and the luncheon will be poet/author Danny Siegel who has written several books, has spoken for groups around the country, and is president of a non-profit Tzedakah corporation which distributes money to needy people in Israel. Also appearing with Mr. Siegel will bo Omahan Debbie Denenberg, who manages the Upstairs Dinner Theater. "There were several reasons why we decided to have two separate events this year," said Mrs. Cohen. "First of all, it is often difficult for working women to take time off in the middle of the day to come to a community luncheon. Secondly, my co-chairmen, Joanie Lehr and Nancy Noddle, as well as the'four chairmen of the Business and Professional division would like an opportunity to have their own event, which I might add, is just as special as the community event." Mrs. Cohen explained that there will be similarities between the events and that in

MIAMI BEACH (JTA) — Israeli Labor Party chairman Shimon Peres told a gathering of more than 600 supporters of Israel that Syria will have to "bear the consequences" of further troop deployment into southern Lebanon, and warned that Israel needs no country's permission to defend its borders. Addressing delegates gathered for the closing assembly of the 18th Annual midwinter conference of the Israel Histadrut Foundation at the Konover Renaissance Hotel, Peres cited both the Lebanese conflict and trie four-year war between Iran and Iraq as primary obstacles in Middle-East peace-making efforts. v The Labor Party leader caid that the Soviet-backed Syrians are more interested in -forging a formidable standing of power in Middle East affairs than in actually taking over of occupying Lebanon. He expressed hope that such jockeying for position doesn't lead neighboring Egypt away from its peace accord with Israel and that Egypt will "remajn a foico for peace in the Middle-East, not for the PLO." The former Israeli Defense Minister also warned that Syria must be contained in it3 advances to the south. . "We do not need the permission of Syria, nor the consent of the Lebanese government to defend ourselves, as we are capable; to keep a watching eya on the southern part of Lebanon, so the northern part of Israel will no longer and not again be endangered by terroristic forces.". " "We do not want to become the policeman of Lebanon, nor the policy-maker of ... the Lebanese destiny," Peres explained. • ;,.•: "We do not have the slightest ambition

choosing Danny Siegel ns the speaker, "I feel that Danny exemplifies the Jewish spirit of life and giving, which* ties in with our Campaign slogan. Debbie Denenberg who will share the podium with Danny, will represent youth and life for the future of Jews in Omaha and elsewhere." To go along with .the slogan Share the Vision, Give to Life, a tree filled with leaves is the symbol of the 1984 Women's Campaign. "The gifts of this year's Campaign will help benefit Jews of future generations," says Mrs. Cohen. "Just as a tree is a lifeline to growth, we are a lifeline to the growth of our own people. As in the song, we simply say, 'To Life'." There will be no minimum gift for either j, event, and all women, in the Omaha community are encouraged to attend. If a woman cannot come to thpevent she is in-' vited to, she is welcome to attend the other, Mrs. Cohen said. "It's very exciting to see a room full of women," says Mrs. Cohen. "It is p. sign of our support for one another, working together is what makes us as women, and Jews, strong."

"Success in the campaign would permit us to channel new dollars into strengthening Jewish education on a community-wide basis," encourages Mr. Goldenberg.
