Rabbisask delay in New Year fun

The Rabbinical Council of Omaha ha> called upon the Jewish community here to celebrate the secular New Year on the evening of Jan. 1 rather than on the beginning of Shabbat, Dec. 31. Annual Meeting scheduled Jan. 9

Lunch, awards and elections are on the agenda for the 79th Annual Meeting of the Jewish Federation of Omaha and its seven departments. The meeting will be held on Jan. 9,1983 at 12:30 p.m. in the Jewish Community Center auditorium. "The meeting is open to all members of the Jewish community," said Paul Cohen, president of the -Jewish Federation of Omaha. "I encourage everyone to participate in the election of officers, and to help us honor people who will be receiving awards." This year a lunch will be included in the program. The cost is $5 per personDuring the meeting, awards will be presented to volunteers who have made outstanding contributions to the Omaha Jewish Helen Jacobton bands r salami to her granddaughter, four-year-old Racbel, daughter commmunity. The departments will in-

clude the Anti-Defamation League Community Relations Committee, Bureau of the Aging, Jewish Community Center, Department of Jewish Education, Jewish Family Services, Jewish Federation Library, and the Jewish Press. After the slates of board members and officers have been Introduced, those attending the meeting will have an opportunity to vote. All members of the Jewish community who have pledged and paid a minimum of $10 to the 1982 Federation Campaign are eligible to vote. After the election, the officers and board members will be installed. Invitations are being mailed to Jewish community members.
