It was wall to wall women at the annual Book Fair Community Luncheon last week when some 340 guests gathered at the JCC-the largest turnout In the history of the community luncheon.

Book Fair serves 'surprise' lunch By Morris Maline The annual Book Fair luncheon served up a surprise dessert for the largest crowd in its four year history. Author Belva Plain who had been scheduled to speak at the Women's Community Luncheon Dec. 9 was unable to attend because of illness. So it came as a surprise to most of the 340 women attending the luncheon at the Jewish Community Center when Lynn Caine was introduced as the guest speaker. Another 60 or so women came to hear the speaker bringing the total in attendance to more than 400, described by Jack Duitch, Library chairman, as the "largest group ever to attend the Book Fair event." The size of the crowd necessitated conducting the

program portion of the event in the JCC theater. Mrs. Caine, author of Widow, described how she regained the perspectives of hope and purpose in life after the death of her husband. She wrote this account of her life three years after her husband died of cancer leaving her with two young children and no insurance. The book became a best seller in America, selling over 52,000 copies in hardback alone. Edythe Wolf, Library director, said the book is now on order and will be available here soon. Mrs. Wolf said that the annual luncheon is now an established feature of the Book Fair "having built up a tremendous reputation" in the community. She expressed her thanks to the community for its support of the annual Book

Fair and gave particular notice of gratitude to the Federation Board of Directors for approving a grant from the Mort Richards endowment to cover the costs of the speakers and associated activities. Mrs. Wolf also noted that more than 70 children participated in the children's activities over the weekend and that literally hundreds of books were sold during the event.
