Rose Blumkin, philanthropist, businesswoman, and committed Jew of national renown, will be the honoree at the annual Israel Bond community dinner on Sunday, Nov. 22.

"Mrs. B." is the recipient of many awards and honors in recognition of her contributions and generosity to many causes.'Most recently the new home for the Jewish aged which is being built on the grounds of the Jewish Community Center was named "The Rose Blumkin Home" in honor of her many good deeds and in recognition of the $1,000,000 gift made by the Blumkin family. Last year, Mrs. Blumkin was named the "Woman of the Year" by the Women's Division of Israel Bonds and was the honored guest at their annual luncheon. Eighty-seven year old Mrs. Blumkin was born in Russia and came to the United States to join her

Rose Blumkin husband in 1917. She opened the Nebraska Furniture Mart in 1937 at 1312 Farnam Street after learning to speak English from her four young children. The story of her business acumen and success has been widely circulated throughout the country as

well as documented in a television program. In her speech at the recent groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Rose Blumkin Jewish Home and in all of her reactions to special attention and honors she has always said that her success story "could only happen in America".

The Chief Rabbi of the British Commonwealth, Dr. Immanuel Jacobvits, will deliver the inaugural lecture of the College of Jewish Family Learning Fall Semester, Thursday, Oct. 22. at 7:30 p.m. in the JCC. Rabbi Jacobvits, a worldrenowned scholar, teacher and author, will speak on Jewish attitudes and views on modern problems affecting Jewish people and their survival. These will include medical problems, abortion, birth control and euthenasia from an Orthodox viewpoint. The lecture is open to all members of the community at no charge and will serve as the "kick-off" for the classes. Rabbi Jacobvits had been expected to be the keynote speaker for the Spring Semester, but inclement weather forced a cancellation of his appearance at that time.

The Queen of England recently knighted Rabbi Jacobvits and his appearance in Omaha will mark one of his first public' activities in the United States following this honor.

The Omaha guest was installed as Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the British Commonwealth of Nations in April, 1967 after having served as Chief Rabbi in Ireland and as the first Rabbi of New York Fifth Avenue synagogue, one of America's best-known Orthodox synagogues.

A survivor of Nazi oppression, Rabbi Jacobvits received his B.A. and Minister's Diploma from Jews College, London and his PhD., for a thesis on a Comparative and Historical Study of Jewish Medical Ethics, from the University - of London. Rabbi Jacobvits , author of a number of books and articles on Jewish Medical

Rabbi Jacobvits Ethics is co-author of the Jewish Hospital Compendium issued by the Jewish Federation of New York, the first manual for the guidance of Jewish physicians and hospital's staff ever published. One of his books, The Timely and the Timeless, is available in the Jewish Federation Library at the Jewish Community Center. A reception will follow the lecture.
