Help us force the PLO from Lebanon 'JjMtM i

The following Interview was given by General Saad Haddad, leader of the Lebanese Christian forces in the South, with Brazilian Journalist, Ben Abraham, who writes a column for the newspaper Folha da Tarde: Q: What have been .the consequences for Lebanon arising from the presence of the PLO? A: They have scared the population. In our country they have become real terrorists. That's why I think it would be the biggest crime in history to give them their own state. That state would become a base for terrorism. As it is, the world has enough of a base for terrorism in Qaddafi's Libya, but if you want to have more... Q: Talks have been held recently in an attempt to reach a solution to the chaos in Lebanon. Under what conditions are you willing to negotiate?

A: Only when the PLO leaves Lebanon! There can be no negotiations over this point! You can't negotiate with somebody who burned and ruined your country and who has acted as a criminal to our people. The main point is that Lebanese sovereignty must be established in all of Lebanon's territory. We don't want even a centimeter of Lebanon to be given to anybody, including Syria. Q: If I understand you correctly, you will negotiate only when there are no more PLO troops in the country - and no more Syrians? A: That's right. When all foreign troops leave, we Lebanese will discuss among ourselves what Is good for Lebanon. The world should help us force the PLO from Lebanon. Remember what King Hussein did in 1970 - he killed about 20,000 of them and got them out of Jord

an. Now, no other Arab country will let them behave the way they do in Lebanon. Q: You have said there has been no movement on the fighting front between you and the Palestinians in the last three years. Neither side has taken any territory from the other. What's all the shooting about then? A: There is the question of the U.N. forces which are all around us. UNIFIL is a real obstacle to military operations and movement. It's unable to stop hostile activity arising from infiltration. Q: What are your relations with Christian forces in the North? A: We are both working for the same goal: To get the PLO and Syrians out of Lebanon. But there are no more relations than that. Q: You don't share their political views. A: I am too busy fighting in my area to really have the time to study their politics. But there is one difference between us. They represent one sect - all Christians. In our area, we have many religions represented. They say they are not against Moslems and are in favor of Lebanon. But we are living that credo and it is 100 percent successful. Q: You say you don't know too much about the political attitudes of the Christian forces in the North. Where do you stand politically? A: Let me answer by saying that while they accept support from Israel, they publicle attack the Israelis. I don't understand this kind of politics. If one accepts help from somebody, you should be friendly to him. They should frankly admit they are getting aid from Israel. You can't hide it forever. Otherwise, the world will accuse them of lying. As a soldier, I say that whatever I have and whatever I do, I show it to the world and declare my intentions. Q: Again, as regards your political attitudes. What is your position personally? Many say you are on the right. A: I am only able to say one thing and that is I take a frank and candid line. There are no secrets as to what I am doing. It is all open, on the table. Q: What kind of support are you receiving from Lebanese overseas, particularly those in Brazil? A: Nothing in the way of support. These overseas Lebanese should remember their mother country. They should be helping us - financially, politically, even militarily through volunteers. But frankly we have received nothing, not even sympathy, especially nothing from Brazil. We don't receive any letters from anybody individually or from groups. I don't know why. Maybe it's because the terrorists have a lot of publicity. They have many offices in Brazil. We are not able to open our own offices because we ore poor.
