In accepting the bequest from the Land estate Lou Solomon, executive director of the Federation said, "this is an example of how members of the community can permanently perpetuate their support of the Federation. By leaving bequests In their wills, many times people can actually reduce their estate taxes. "We are grateful to the Lands for remembering the Jewish community. The money will help us support our vital programs."
By Karen Pollak Jerry Hoberman was told that he would never be able to get men to donate money for the community to sponsor a dinner for COO to 750 men. Even if he got the money, it would never happen, men would not come to a Federation dinner. Others commented that to attract people you need a well known speaker, such as a member of the Israeli government, for the program. Jerry Hoberman is an irrepressible optimist who believes dreams can become reality. I spoke with Jerry recently about the dinner and he had the following comments: "For those who doubted what our community can accomplish, we hope they will be at Peony Park on April 30, 6:30 p.m., when COO men come together to snow their feelings for their community and their Jewish heritage. For those who said men will not give money to provide the dinner, I'm sure they have seen the list of 180 men who willingly gave $50 each, raising $9000, to have this dinner. "The dinner Is designed to educate our community regarding the financial and physical needs of the Federation. Our solidarity and togetherness will be demonstrated by our attendance of the dinner." Jerry feels everyone should see the slide presentation being assembled by Ozzle Nogg. He reviewed the script and was overwhelmed with emotion. "Ozzie touches each of the seven arms of the Federation and what it means to be a Jew, both today and in the past. It Is no wonder the Jews are such a proud people. The fusion of Ozzie's creative talents and Lee Simon's uniquely imaginative photography will Imbue everyone at the dinner with a sense of pride. "Larry Herman has designed a special poster exhibit to be displayed in the foyer. Myron Cohen and his string quartet will greet you with Jewish music. "It is a satisfying and gratifying experi-
Jerry Hoberman ence to see the work of over 100 volunteers helping to make this evening a memorable one for all those attending. Of these volunteers, special thanks go to Ron Brodkey, Dick Zacharia, Tom Bernstein, Jerry Rosen, Karen Pollalt, Bob Epstein, Skip White and Nelson Gordman. "The preparations are drawing to a close. The dinner will be a reality In six days. I look forward to viewing this historic gathering of Jewish men and sharing In the caring that we have for one another and for every Jew, be he here, there, in Israel or held hostage In Russia. When we gather together, we say we are truly ONE..." Having been In on the initial plans for the dinner and having watched it take shape, this reporter shares Jerry's enthusiasm. I am looking forward to participating in this experience and being afforded the opportunity to see this 'dream become a reality.' Sec you on April 30, 6:30 p.m., at Peony Park.
