Omaha Men Gather Facts On Arms Sale to Saudis By Morris Mallne Omaha participants in the American Jewish Leadership Mission to Washington, D.C., have reported "mostly postlve" feelings about the trip. Sponsored by the United Jewish Appeal on March 10, the Mission gave seven Omaha men the opportunity to visit with Israeli leaders, members of Congress, State Department officials and the leadership of the UJA. Those participating were:
Joe Kirshenbaum, president of the Jewish Federation of. Omaha; Louis B. Solomon, executive director of the Federation; Steve Simon, Donald Nogg, Mickey Kaplan, Murray Newman and Syd Osten. A highlight of the trip for Mr. Nogg was an opportunity to participate at a social function, "actually meeting Vice President George Bush"and a group of senators. The group also had a separate meeting with Senator Edward Zorins-

The Mission took place at a time when the American Jewish community in support of Israel was expressing strong concern over the proposed sale of additional offensive military^ capability to Saudi Arabia." To explore this concern further, the Omaha group had a private meeting with Nicholas Veliotes, the new assistant secretary of state for Near East and South Asian affairs. "We were Impressed with him as a representative of government," Mr. Nogg said, adding that "we went in with tunnel vision fearful for the security of Israel and came away with the feeling that Israel has a friend In our new administration." Mr. Kaplan said this turned out to be one of the most interesting of all fact finding trips he has been on. "We see a great threat to Israel, but the administration has stated that Israel will always be given the qualitative edge so it may not be in the best interest of Israel to make (Continued on Page2)

Stand up and be counted — don't be left-out. One evening for togetherness, one evening for demonstrating You Care! On April 30 — your friends — your fellow Jews — young and old alike — will come together to say we care - about our community, about each other, about Israel, and about Jews throughout the world. 180 men have donated the money for this function — 100 volunteers are working to make it a memorable evening. It becomes the obligation and responsibility of every Jewish man in our community to participate in this evening. I view each reservation as a resounding response that says, "We are strong — Israel is strong — Join us!" When 750 Jewish men come together, I promise you not a Dinner but an experience which will long be remembered,..
