Men's Mission is "Exhilaration It "Blows Your Mind" The 23 participants in the 1977 Omaha Men's Fact Finding MissiontoIsrael have returned to Omaha but their experiences linger on. ;. J The Jewish Press contacted as many members of the group as possible to obtain Individual Impressions. Some capsule comments follow: "I dcn't think any of utcame away without..a feeling of exhilaration . . . the Israelis are fearless, confident, and enthusiastic . . . Israel speaks to the highest nature of man, and, every Jew owes it to himself to visit that country," said Jerry Gitolck. ,-..'• ..•-.-. "It Just blows your mind," said Shelly Lincoln, explaining that to see so much In such a period of time is Just fantastic. He adde J that the sights of Masada are Just "Incredible." : Al Block said that the challenges and problems of peace may be Just as difficult as the problems of war and defense. He pointed out that he saw much activity in preparing for peace, preparing for private investment and tourism. One of the things that bothered him, said Mr. Bjoch, is the control by the religious establishment without opportunity for input by Reform and Conservatism. AccordingtoJerry Kohll, the permeation of Orthodox persuasion into the laws and government suprised him. "We were exposed to so much (hat II was like visiting one big museum " My next triptoIsraeli said Mr. Kohll, will be with my family." . . . Touches the Heart By Robert D. Kaplan UJA Staff Writer "There are too many soldiers' graves on Mount Herd to let them die in vain." The speaker was Joe Kirshenbaum of Omaha, on his first trip to Israel on a United Jewish Appeal Mission. Kirshenbaum gave a lot of rational reasons why Jews must support Israel, but like all first-timers, admitted that the act of coming here does something for the heart that is impossible to explain. "Truthfully, I couldn't live here, but I'll do all I can to help. It takes a trip here to do it to you. We have it in our hearts, ' Jewlshness' I mean. And one doesn't have to be religious to feel It," Kirshenbaum, in the retail clothing business, came here as part of the UJA Omaha Mission in late November. He was impressed with "what the Israeli people have accomplished on their own." Hecontlnued: A "We're giving more money. But they're giving their 'ives. Our sacrifice doesn't change our mode of living, But their sacrifice' changes theirs. And what's more important, our giving can positively affect the way they live." Kirshenbaum admitted being "surprised by the attitude of the people." "1 can't believe how secure they feel in Israel. There.is no doubt in their mind as to what they're here for. To put it bluntly, I'm impressed with the guts of these people." < . H said it is impossible to "visualize" an Israeli agricultural settlement until one sees it. "It gives you such intense pride to see what the Jews have done^ Unfortunately, it takes a trip here tofeelit." Kirshenbaum visited the Good Fence at the Lebanese border and was so Inspired by the'sight of Israeli soldiers helping Lebanese people, that he found it difficult to believe "that enemy country was Just a small step away." ' •• ' Kirshenhaum also stayed at the North Hotel in Klryat Sbemona, which was almost hit by PLO rocket fire recently. "The Israelis there seemed so unconcerned. I couldn't believe
