By Barbara Simon At Its September board meeting, the Jewish Federation of Omaha Board of Directors voted to change the Campaign by eliminating the splitting of contributions between the "Regular" Campaign and "Israel Emergency Fund" Campaign, according to Leonard (Bud) Goldstein, Federation president. He explained that the

dividing of gifts between the two funds was created during the 1967 war (6-day-war) in Israel as a way to raise additional dollars which could be sent immediately to Israel. He said that the two gift designations have lost their significance for fund-raising purposes. The Board was in agreement that it was wise to reserve the term "emergency" for time's when extra dollars are urgently needed, and that the "Emergency Fund" designation can be reinstated whenever needed. Goldstein emphasized that the term "Israel Emergency Fund" should be used in years when the community is asking Its donors to contribute additional dollars to Israel over their annual contributions to the Federation Campaign. The Board made this decision to eliminate the designa-

tion "Israel Emergency Fund" on the pledge card. Most other Federations are now using a total gift or "one line" idea, and the new computer system that the Federation will be using for the 1978 Campaign uses the single pledge system for the 25 other Jewish communities it is serving, as well as Omaha, Goldstein added. The Omaha Federation Board re-emphasized its commitment to Israel as the major beneficiary of Federation funds, through its annual allocation to the United Jewish Appeal, and stated that in no way will'our total dollars to Israel be diminished, said Goldstein. . Many contributors did not realize, said Goldstein, that at least one-half of Omaha's total dollars raised were always allocated to Israel and that this practice will continue. *

The Aerobics concept originated from the theories of Dr. Kenneth Cooper, who has outlined- his work and programs In Aerobics, 1968; The. New Aerobics,' 1970;' and Aerobics for Women, 1972. Dr. Cooper developed the concept while studying the cause and prevention of heart attacks at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. (At the time of his research, the greatest cause of death among male Air Force personnel, excluding accidents,-was heart attacks, although over 98 per cent of the men affected were under 50 years of age.) From testing, conductedi&ih thousands of Air force p e r s o n n e l , Dr. Cooper developed a system for measuring an individual's

level of physical fitness and for determining times and intensities of exercise necessary -to obtain and maintain physical fitness. This system is called "Aerobics". According . to Aerobics theory, physical

fitness is the result of providing sufficient energy to meet daily tasks (human energy being the result of oxygen burning food). The first problem in increasing the energy capacity, (Continued on PageB)
