Jewish Family Service needs volunteers for the F r i e n d l y V i s i t o r s and Telephone Reassurance Service, an attempt to reach out to both isolated senior citizens and still active senior citizens who enjoy both their independence and a regular phone call, according to Bob Lovett,JFS director. The volunteers will begin their training with an orienta-. tion to be held at the JCC on Aug. 15, at 3 p.m. Any questions regarding becoming a volunteer, or on how to receive the service should be directed to Carolyn Novicoff in the Jewlsh'Family Servlce-Office at 334-8200, Ext. 68. : Seniors who. participate will receive regular phone, calls and if requested, personal visits from trained volunteers who have a desire to help those who may not have family and/or friends near by.1. ; The volunteer becomes a special friend who helps to brighten the senior citizen's existence with their regular phone calls, Lovett noted. Volunteers are now, being sought on the basis of their

desire to perform an important service for others, their desire to accept responsibility and their desire to help the elderly to live anil work independently in their own home. The volunteer calls the senior citizen on a regular

' basis to check to see that they are all right and to ask if they needanythlng. . "It is this type of program that will help the senior citizen stay In his own home and out of Institutional settings for as long as possible," Lovett emphasized. -

The President and the Prime Minister: Menachem Begin at the White House IT W|*« HOUM ampoMntf

Washington, D,C, July 19, will go down in Menachem Begln's memory as a "great day in my life — one of' the best." . . That was the Tuesday he was warmly received and duly honored at the White House by a President who is in office only four months longer than the new, dynamic Israeli Prime Minister. After 15 years'of covering White House State functions, I'd rank Begln's visit as the most emotion-laden and drama-packed. His arrival, ceremony on the South Lawn was moving and eventful. Israeli and American flags : flew side by side; and 'Hatikvah' was followed by 'The Star Snangled Banner'- It was the first visit to "the White House for Aliza and : Menachem. Begin. In fact, a few moments later — as the : Israeli leader was about to start his first official meeting' with the President; he asked him, "is this the famous Ova! Office?" ';; . The 53 "working dinner" guests found themselves captivated as Premier Begin - In a low-toned voice — spoke about the moral greatness of America, about "little" Israel, about his own childhood and about the Holocaust,•v ,^.
