Wouldn't it be nice if one day we could have a * theatrical presentation involving Jewish content and Jewish players? Well that day is now. At long last, the Center Stage will take on a uniquely Jewish look with its production of "The World of Sholom Aleichem.!1 There will be six performances, May 7 through May 15, and the problems involved in producing the play have been difficult to overcome. For example, because of Daylight Saving Time, the Sabbath comes to a close after 9 p.m.; therefore, the Center Stage Saturday evening performances begin at 9:30 p.m. — not a typical starting time for theatergoers. But, Sholom Aleichem himself would have been proud of the Center Stage solution: turn a negative into a positive—by offering "Candlelight, wine and flute duets" before the Saturday night performances. Your hosts for the first pre-theater celebration are Mrs. Bella Eisenberg, Mrs. and Mrs. Millard Seldin, and Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Osten. Remember: The same rich vein of Jewish folklore from which came the great prize-winning musical comedy hit, "Fiddler on the Roof," has provided the material for the Center Stage's next attraction.

New Movie on Polish Ghetto '• NEW YORK-An East German movie, "Jacob The Liar," one of the five top candidates for this year's foreign-language Academy Awards, recently opened in New York. . The movie tempers the terrible terrors of World War II In the Nazi-occupied, Polish ghetto with humor, through the principal character of Jacob Heyra, who overbears a radio communique in local Gestapo headquarters about Russian victories in the vicinity. Jacob passes tbe happy news to other Jews, stating with underplayed pride that he heard It on his own clandestine radio. His neighbors, clinging to this newly found promise of deliverance, resort to demanding more news daily, and Jacob is forced to invent It.
