"The big probelm," said Mrs. Lipsey, "is the senior citizen who is not using any of our services because of lack of public transportation and the hesitancy to let us, or their children, know they do not have rides. We are making every possible effort, through our Federation, and in cooperation with community transportation committees, to reach everyone who wants to participate in our activltes but Is home-bound because of lackT>f mobility". Weekend and evening activities provide an even greater problem for those who cannot get a ride or do not drive. "We are anxious to set up car-pools, cab-pools, and pick-ups where possible", said Mrs. Lipsey, "but we need the cooperation of the community. Hopefully those driving to synagogue services, to the Center for evening or Sunday programming, will of' fer to pick up those who do not have rides". According to Molllc Delman, Older Adult Director at the Center, "we are discovering that many older adults are shy about asking their own families and children for ritles. Some stay home, alone, rather than impose on anyone, particularly . their families. They would welcome ah offer though of a ride, particularly when we have Sunday programming as we will on Sept. 19 for the family picnic". ' - , Anyone wishing to assist the Transportation Task Force In providing rides for older adults, during the week and on Sundays, is asked to contact Mollie Delman or Sam Lauber at the Center, 334-8200.
