20th Street JCC Sale Completed Omaha — The Jewish Community Center building at 20th and Dodge Streets officially became the property of Northwesfern Bell Telephone Company at 10:30 a.m. last Friday. The historic closing transaction was held at the Omaha National Bank in the presence of officials of the participating Institutions. The $700,000 received for the 20th street property was immediately transferred to the Omaha National Bank in payment of the major portion of the building loan which has financed construction costs at the.,jMw Center on I32nd

Street. Aeeording to Norman Batt,

ctiairman of the Building Committee, building fund pledges are expected to cover the complete cost of the new Center. "However," Mr. Batt said, "until the building fund pledges are paid, interim financing was needed to pay the construction bills. With inters! rates at 10 per cent, reducing the loan by $700,000 represents a sizeable saving for us," Mr. Batt said. Batt noted that as pledges are paid, the roo.OOO will be channeled into the Endowment Fund for the operation of the new Center, in accordance with the original plans for the use of the proceeds of the sale. Mr. Batt said that the

construction loans has now been reduced to less than $20,000 but that addiUonal funds will be needed immediately to pay constnictiion bills as the Center nears completion. "The more money we receive from the payment of building fund pledges, the less we will have to borrow," Mr. Batt said. "For that reason I urge payment of building fund pledges as quickly as possible." According to Allen Grauer, representing the telephone company at the closing, the 2ath street Onter building will be demolished within the next month. Future plans for the site were not revealed.
