Omaha Plans Education Conference, Soviet Solidarity Program, April 30 Omaha — Professor Irving Halperin of San Francisco State College will be a featured speaker at two important events in Omaha on Sunday, April 30. He will speak at the conference on Continuing Adult Jewish Education which will be held at Beth Israel Synagogue starting at 9 a.m. Under the chairmanship' of Mrs, Phil Grad, the conference is sponsored by the Omaha Jewish .Cultural Committee. Professor Halperin will also •peak at a community-wide meeting on Sunday night, April M a t > p.m. at Beth Israel, participating in a Day of National Solidarity for Soviet Jews,

Recognized as a world authority on Holocaust literature, Professor Halperin is presently Professor of English and Creative Writing at San Francisco State College. He formerly taught at the Universities of Illinois (Chicago) and Northwestern.

An active leader in many philanthropic and civic endeavors, Feinberg is currently a member of the United Jewish Appeal National Campaign Cabinet. Professor Halperin has traveled widely; on a Fulbright Teaching Grant to India, 195354, and a Fulbright Lectureship in American Literature to Western Germany In 1963-64. The following- year he went to Israel on a sabbatical where he did his research at the Yad Vashem Archives in Jerusalem on holocaust literature. Professor Halperin, who has published many articles in scholarly and popular journals is a participant in the National Conferences on Soviet Jewry and Professors for Peace in the Middle East. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Congress in San Francisco,

Harlan Hockenherg to Serve On Jewish Life Institute Board and Welfare Funds, will subvent experimental projects on the local level in all areas of Jewish living. Mr. Hockenberg was one of 60 men and women selected from among 400 persons recommended by c o m m u n i ties throughout the United States and Canada. He was appointed by Max Fisher, president of the CJFWF. • The Institute, with a three? yearbudget of $2,250,000, is being funded by the more than 200 Jewish federations and welfare funds around the country.
