Omaha — Mrs. Earl Marvin, national president of the National Council of Jewish Women, Will be in Omaha, Tuesday, May 18, to address the noon luncheon meeting of the Omaha Chapter, NCJW at the Highland Country Club. Mrs. Marvin gained wide recognition for her leadership in the general and Jewish communities, and served for 8 years as national vice-president of NCJW prior to her election as president this spring. New Officers New officers for the Omaha chapter will bo installed at the meeting. Omaha—Mr. Y. Patt, Director of the Israel Aliyah Center. In Chicago, will be in Omaha Thursday, May 20, to speak with members of the community considering aliyah to Israel. Born, raised and educated in Bailistock,' Poland, Y a a c o v Patt came'to Israel in 1939 at the ago of 10. During Israel's War of Independence, Mr. Patt served as a Unit Commander and. helped defend Latrun and tho Western Galilee. In 1950, he became Supervisor at the Immigration end Absorption Department of the Jewish Agency. Mr. Patt held this post until 1955 when lie was appointed Officer in charge of employment and vocational training at the Rehabilitation Center of tho Min<

In September, 1970 Mr. Patt took leave of absence from his present position at the Ministry of Defense to become Regional Director of the Israel Aliyah Center in Chicago. Awards At the meeting, awards will bo presented for those volunteers* who'have participated in Council's community service projects this past year. Projects sponsored by the Omaha Section are Camp for Visually Handicapped Children, the neonatal audio screening project at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Trouping Theatre, Thrjft Shop, volunteer services at the Omaha Sight Center, the Omaha Hearing School, Nebraska Psychiatric Institute, Senior Citizens Club at the Jewish Community Center, Veteran's Hospital, and tho Dr. Sher Home for the Aged. News Flash New York (JTA) — Professor Mikhail Zand and 24 other Soviet Jews have been given permission to leave the Soviet Union, it was reported this week. According to the information, the decision to let the 25 leave was reached by the special police commission set up by the Soviet government in March to speed applications for emigration by Jews. There was no immediate identification of the 24 Jews nor any official confirmation by Soviet or Western sources that permission-to leave was granted.

I to Honor A. Edgar Omaha—Cantor Aaron I. Edgar,will be honored by Beth El 'Synagogue on "the occasion of his 35th anniversary as cantor for the congregation. Cantor Edgar will bo feted at the annual 'dinner meeting, Sunday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the synagogue social- hall. Cantor Edgar comes from a European Chassldic background, and was reared in Detroit, Michigan. He sang in many choirs as a youth, and when his voice matured, studied for the Hazzanute. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and has had extensive training as a Cantor. He held positions in Jacksonville, Florida and Des Moines, Iowa before coming to Beth El in 1936. His son, Cantor Raphael Edgar resides in Silver Springs, Maryland.
