Omaha City Omaha—A resolution protesting the treatment of Soviet Jews was Introduced by Councilman John Ritums at a meeting of "the Omaha City Council held Tuesday, January 19, 1971. The resolution, .unanimously adopt-' ed by the Council, reads as follows: " RESOLVED: • WHEREAS, the recent perse• cution of innocent Jews in Soviet R u s s i a has resulted in death sentences or long terms •in concentration camps, which prison terms will result-in a slow dying process; and, WHEREAS, the said action of Soviet Russia has provoked sharp and sincere p r o t e s t s throughout the free world; and, ; WHEREAS, the citizens of • the free world have noticed for years the Soviets' carefully designed plan against the Jews and other minorities and persons in lands that Soviet Russia has forceably occupied and annexed to destroy their ethnic and religious heritage; and, WHEREAS, the same plan is taking place in the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Es-
Omaha — Daniel Katzman, co-chairman of the New Center Building Committee, has announced the appointment _ of Charles iilonasee to head the New C e n t e r Planning Committee. Mr. Katzman noted that before work can begin on the proposed new Jewish Community Center, a careful study must ' be made to determine the various community needs to be served by the" Center. "It will be the responsibility of Mr. Monasce and his committee to hear suggestions and opinions from all segments of the community at large; to determine how the new Center can best serve the most people, and finallyi to present the findings and recommendations of his committee to the Building Committee," Mr. Katzman said. Meeting at Beth Israel to Probe Relevance of Jewish Education Omaha—A community-wide, meeting on the subject of "The Relevance of Jewish Education," will be held Sunday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. at Beth Israel Synagogue. Guest speaker will be Dr. Zalman P . Ury, Head consultant of the Bureau of Jewish Education of Los Angeles, California.
