Noting that after Israel attained its independence in HMii, :;ome 121).000 Iraqi Jews "had fled to Israel. Mr. Tekoah stated that 'the Jews who remained in Iraq have been subjected to e v e r greater" restrictions and deprivations. : These have ju.sumed alarmingly grave proportions since the hostilities of June, 1907. The Iraqi Government has passed laws denying Jews their civil liberties, their freedom of movement, and the possibility of employment. The Jews of Iraq are under constant fear for their lives. The Iraqi authorities, and particularly the secret police, threaten tiioin even with murder." According to Mr. Tekoah, the Iraqi actions are the first sinco

No commitmeiif to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on. There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when 1wo Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. Iiu!: when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break off diplomatic relations with America because of what, we do in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They .sent. Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway. The Jews arc alone in the world. If Israel survives it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Israel Must, Live Yet at this moment. Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We eaii •rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has onl/ to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is lo America and Hie West in general. 1 have a,premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it RO with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us. Israel must live! (Reprinted from the J(-wi!.h Herald Voice, courtesy of the Motion Post.)

Israel Pays McGaffin and Knoll said ''Untruth, which l e a k e d out soon enough, was that the ship was a spy vessel, equipped with elabo r a t e electronic surveillance gear and assigned by the National Security Agency, which specializes in breaking the military codes of other nations. Presumably, the Liberty was monitoring Israeli and Arab battlefield communications." I s r a e l paid the U.S. $3,323,500 in com-

pensation this week to the families of 34 Americans killed on the L i b e r t y last June 8. The Liberty was hit by jets and torpedo boats while in international waters 15,5 nautical miles off the Sinai c o a s t . Israel explained later that the attack resulted from the mistaken belief that the ship was Egyptian. The book asserted that when the c r i s i s grew w o r s e last spring, "President Johnson issued a flat directive to all members of his Administration to discuss no aspect of the situation with the press . . . Americans were left in the d a r k on the President's t h i n k i n g and the Government's plans."
