No longer v/ould the Jew be h o m e l e s s . The dream of 2,000 years of striving for a J e w i s h homeland was realized on May 14, 1948. In the small auditorium of the Tel Aviv Museum, the leaders of Jews of Palestine solemnly proclaimed the independence of reborn Israel. Twenty years later, a people and nation who long for peace have known nothing but war. And in spite of everything, Israel has grown and developed. "Am Yisrael Chai"—the people of Israel live.
